Brisket & Rice in Cy-Fair Recognized as a Recommended Restaurant in the 2025 MICHELIN Guide Texas
Brisket & Rice, located at 6166 Hwy 6 N., Houston, TX 77084, has earned recognition as one of Texas’s 2025 Recommended Restaurants in the 2025 MICHELIN Guide Texas, placing Cy-Fair on the map among Houston’s most exciting culinary neighborhoods.
The Recommended Restaurant distinction is part of MICHELIN’s signature curation, spotlighting establishments that deliver outstanding food and hospitality worthy of attention, even if they fall outside the Guide’s Star or Bib Gourmand categories. This honor signals that Brisket & Rice has impressed MICHELIN Inspectors with exceptional quality and consistency — a major milestone for this fast-rising, family-run eatery.
Founded by brothers Hong Tran and Phong Tran in 2022, Brisket & Rice quickly drew a following for its inventive fusion of Texas Hill Country smokehouse traditions and Southeast Asian comfort food. Originally operating from a modest, unassuming storefront alongside a gas station on FM 529, the restaurant relocated to a larger space on Highway 6 in 2025 to meet growing demand from loyal locals and curious newcomers alike.

At the heart of the menu is the Michelin-praised brisket fried rice, a flavorful blend of post-oak–smoked brisket, jasmine rice, Chinese sausage, and a fried egg — the dish that first put the restaurant on Houston’s culinary map. Other favorites include house-smoked pork ribs celebrated for their tenderness and subtle smokiness, rich Frito pie, and creamy mac & cheese. The restaurant continues to balance traditional Texas barbecue with the aromatic influences of Vietnamese home cooking, all while prioritizing fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
The 2025 Guide — unveiled at the Wortham Theater Center in Houston — features 140 restaurants statewide, including 18 One MICHELIN Star and four Green Star honorees. Governor Greg Abbott commended the honorees for “making Texas the best place to live, work, and dine,” while Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell noted that the Guide “showcases the incredible diversity of flavors that can be found across our great state.”
This recognition builds on a growing list of prior honors. In 2024, Brisket & Rice earned a coveted spot on the MICHELIN Guide’s “Best Barbecue in Texas” list, marking its first appearance in the prestigious international guide. MICHELIN Inspectors praised its signature brisket fried rice for “harmoniously blending Vietnamese flavors with Texas smoke.”

The restaurant was also recognized locally by the Greater Houston chapter of the Texas Restaurant Association in 2025 for small business innovation, and highlighted by the National Barbecue & Grilling Association (NBBQA) for its creative approach to modern barbecue fusion. Together, these distinctions reflect the Tran family’s growing reputation for redefining what Texas barbecue can be — creative, community-driven, and globally inspired.
Houston-area culinary peers — including March, Bludorn, Belly of the Beast, and Golfstrommen — also earned honors in the 2025 Guide, while Isidore and Nicosi (San Antonio) and Mamani (Dallas) received new One Stars, and Nixta Taqueria (Austin) and Isidore joined Dai Due and Emmer & Rye as Green Star awardees.
For Cy-Fair residents, Brisket & Rice’s Recommended status is more than a nod from MICHELIN Inspectors — it’s a proud reminder that creativity, family, and flavor can elevate a neighborhood favorite into one of Texas’s most talked-about dining experiences.
