Recycling
TDS offers single-stream recycling: you can co-mingle acceptable recyclables in the same cart — no need to separate by material.
Common items accepted for recycling
- Paper & cardboard — clean paper, magazines, newspapers, flattened cardboard boxes, paperboard (e.g. cereal boxes), etc.
- Plastics — many types of plastic containers, bottles, jugs (check resin codes if uncertain).
- Glass bottles and jars — glass is accepted under TDS recycling.
- Metals — aluminum cans, tin/steel cans, and other metal containers when properly emptied.
What to avoid putting in the recycling cart
- Items with food residue (e.g. greasy pizza boxes) — contamination can ruin a whole recycling load.
- Plastic bags, thin plastic film, or materials like garden hoses, wires — these often clog sorting machines or are not accepted.
- Aerosol cans (unless completely empty), used batteries, electronics, hazardous materials — these generally must go to landfill or special disposal, not in standard recycling carts.
When in doubt about an item, use the Waste Wizard’s “What Goes Where” feature to check — it helps avoid contamination and ensures proper disposal.
