Klein High Junior Violet Lopez Reaches 500 Career Digs

October 02 2026

Klein High School junior Violet Lopez has reached 500 career digs, marking a defensive milestone early in her third season on the Bearkats’ varsity volleyball team.

Lopez reached the mark during tournament play. As a libero, she helps anchor Klein’s back-row defense, keeping opposing attacks in play and giving her teammates another chance to build an offensive possession.

“It is a great reminder that I’m doing my job on the court,” Lopez said in an interview with Klein ISD.

A Milestone Built on Defense

A dig is a defensive play that keeps an opponent’s attack from ending the rally. For a libero, those saves are a central part of the job, alongside serve reception and helping the team move from defense to offense.

Coach Jasmine Koonts has highlighted Lopez’s defensive presence and the impact she makes without necessarily being the most vocal player on the court. The 500-dig milestone puts a number to that work across her varsity career.

Finding Her Place in Volleyball

Before volleyball became her focus, Lopez pictured herself pursuing Olympic swimming. Her older sister also played volleyball, and the sport became part of Lopez’s own path.

She comes from an athletic family. Her mother played volleyball and basketball, while her father played college football. Now in her junior year, Lopez is working toward the possibility of playing her own sport at the college level.

Academics remain a priority as she considers that goal. Away from practices and matches, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and participating in church activities.

With the milestone reached early in her junior season, Lopez still has more of her high school career ahead as she continues contributing to the Bearkats’ defense.
