Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library Brings Full Month of Family, Teen and Adult Programs to Tomball This May
As families across Tomball and Northwest Harris County look for meaningful ways to stay connected, creative and engaged this spring, the Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library is once again turning its campus into a hub for learning, entertainment and community-building throughout May.
Located at 30555 Tomball Parkway in Tomball, the library continues to serve as more than just a place to check out books. With dedicated children’s spaces, a teen room, innovation and digital media labs, meeting rooms, study areas and maker equipment ranging from 3D printers to laser cutters, the library has become a gathering place for residents of all ages looking to explore new interests, connect with neighbors and access educational resources close to home.
The library’s May 2026 programming lineup reflects that mission, offering a wide variety of free events for children, teens and adults — many designed to encourage creativity, literacy, technology skills and community engagement.
Summer Reading Program Kickoff Returns to Tomball
One of the month’s biggest highlights arrives Thursday, May 28, when the Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library officially launches its 2026 Summer Reading Program with a community-wide kickoff celebration from 2 to 4 p.m.
This year’s Summer Reading Program theme, “Unearth a Story,” will bring families together for an afternoon of hands-on activities, crafts and interactive experiences designed to spark curiosity and encourage children to stay engaged with reading throughout the summer months. During the kickoff event, attendees can register for the Summer Reading Program, contribute to a new community art project and participate in a variety of family-friendly activities spread throughout the library.
The kickoff also serves as the unofficial start of the library’s busy summer season, which traditionally draws hundreds of Tomball-area families seeking free educational entertainment, literacy opportunities and indoor activities during the school break. Summer Reading Program events are generously supported by the Friends of the Tomball Community Library.
Weekly Story Times Continue for Young Children
Families with young children will once again find a full lineup of early literacy programming throughout May, with weekly story times tailored to different developmental age groups.
Baby Bookworms, held Mondays, May 4, 11 and 18 at 9:30 a.m., is designed for newborns through early walkers and incorporates age-appropriate stories, songs, finger plays and playtime activities that encourage bonding between babies and caregivers. Immediately afterward, Tiny Tots begins at 10:30 a.m. for walkers through 18 months, continuing the library’s focus on early childhood language development and social interaction.
Toddler Time takes place Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. throughout the month for children ages 18 months to 3 years old. Meanwhile, Preschool Story Time is offered Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 3 to 5, combining stories, songs, finger plays and take-home crafts. Because of the popularity of both programs, tickets are required and distributed at the Children’s Desk beginning 30 minutes before each session while supplies last.
The library will also host Pokémon League gatherings on Saturday, May 2 and May 16 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., sponsored by the Magnolia City Pokémon Gym. The all-ages event invites participants to bring their favorite decks, play matches with fellow fans and discuss Pokémon strategies in a welcoming environment for both beginners and experienced players.
Teen Space Offers Gaming, Creativity and Relaxation
The library’s Teen Space continues to provide Tomball-area students with a safe, technology-rich environment where they can connect with friends, explore creative interests and unwind after school. Throughout May, teens ages 12-17 — and 18-year-olds still enrolled in high school — can participate in a wide variety of free activities ranging from gaming tournaments to writing workshops and art programs.
The month begins with “Game Over!” on May 4 from 1 to 3 p.m., where teens can enjoy everything from video games to board games inside the Teen Space. The following day, “Lo-Fi Days in the Teen Space” offers a quieter atmosphere with lo-fi music, gentle lighting and space for homework, studying or simply relaxing.
Weekly Homeschool Hangout sessions on May 6, 13, 20 and 27 invite teens to socialize while using the library’s tablets, digital table and gaming consoles. Young writers can also participate in the Inklings Teen Writing Club on May 7 and 21, where participants are encouraged to share everything from poetry and fanfiction to short stories and novels for peer feedback and discussion.
Additional programs include Queer Craft Space on May 11, Teen Button Making on May 13, Study Break with puzzles and snacks on May 14, and an after-school screening of Crazy Rich Asians on May 18 complete with snacks for attendees. The month wraps up with “Color and Relax” on May 19, offering teens a calming creative outlet with coloring supplies provided by the library.
The Teen Space itself features gaming consoles including Xbox Series X, PlayStation V and Nintendo Switch systems, along with Meta Quest 2 VR headsets, iPads with Apple Pencils, digital tables and other technology available for supervised use during library hours.
Innovation Lab Expands Access to Emerging Technology
As maker culture and hands-on technology education continue growing in popularity across Northwest Harris County, the Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library’s Innovation Lab remains one of the area’s most accessible public creative technology spaces.
The Innovation Lab houses advanced equipment including 3D printers, a resin 3D printer, laser cutter and engraver, Cricut machines, computerized embroidery machines, sewing equipment, green screen technology, heat presses, soldering irons, oscilloscopes and audio recording equipment. Many of the tools are available free to the public after completing required orientation sessions.
Throughout May, the library will host several certification-style orientations for community members interested in using the equipment independently. 3D Printer Orientations are scheduled for May 6 and May 22, while Laser Cutter Orientations will be held May 13 and May 30. A Cricut Orientation is also planned for May 20, introducing participants to machine capabilities, operation and project creation. Registration is required for all orientation sessions, and age guidelines vary depending on equipment type.
One of the month’s featured maker events, “Celebrate AAPI! Hands-on Sublimation Workshop with Sonny,” takes place May 9 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Innovation Lab. Participants will learn sublimation printing techniques while creating full-color Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month-themed metal business cards using one of two pre-selected designs created by guest instructor Sonny. Supplies are limited and registration is required.
The library also continues offering small-group Innovation Lab workshops for groups of four or more interested in learning about 3D printers, Cricut machines or laser cutters together.
Adult Programs Focus on Creativity, Genealogy and Community Connection
Adult programming throughout May reflects the library’s growing role as a gathering place for lifelong learning, cultural exploration and social connection in the Tomball community.
Recurring weekly activities include American Mah-Jongg every Friday afternoon in the Community Engagement Area, Young at heART watercolor sessions on Tuesday mornings for artists of all experience levels and Sit and Stitch gatherings on Thursdays for knitting, crocheting, quilting and other needle arts enthusiasts. The Tomball Needle Arts Guild will also meet May 9, welcoming beginners and experienced crafters alike for a morning and afternoon of collaborative creativity.
Residents looking to improve English language skills can attend both in-person ESL Conversational Club sessions on Saturdays and virtual intermediate-to-advanced conversational practice classes offered online via Teams on Mondays.
Several programs throughout the month also celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, including a “Celebrating America 250” history presentation on May 4 and “Taste Testing Snacks from Asia” on May 11, where attendees can sample popular snacks while learning more about Asian and Pacific Islander cultures.
Genealogy enthusiasts will find one of the library’s most extensive program offerings, including Lunch and Learn Genealogy on May 8, Rootsquad on May 19, Roots Research Help on May 21, Genealogy Basics on May 27 and the Connections! Genealogy Study Group, which explores how DNA testing can support family history research. Many sessions also introduce participants to specialized genealogy resources such as Ancestry, Fold3, FamilySearch and the library’s Chaparral Collection.
Additional adult and family-friendly highlights include Monthly Make & Mingle on May 12, the Media Conversion Workshop on May 13, Tomball Art League Presents: Brushstrokes on May 16, Mystery Monday discussions on unsolved mysteries and paranormal topics on May 18, Family Movie Night featuring The Good Dinosaur on May 19 and Gaming with Friends on May 30 for tabletop RPG and board game enthusiasts.
Throughout the month, the library is also collecting donation items near the first-floor elevators for Boots for Troops, a local nonprofit organization that ships care packages to deployed military personnel around the world.

In addition to books and programming, the facility offers study rooms, meeting spaces, a Family Place Learning Center, quiet rooms, a digital media lab, internet café and digitization equipment capable of converting VHS tapes, vinyl records, film reels and older media formats into digital files.
The library also provides proctoring services through the Lone Star College-Tomball Assessment Center located on the second floor.
