Brisket & Rice Moving to Larger Location in Cy-Fair with Signature Barbecue Dishes

January 07 2025

Brisket & Rice, the beloved barbecue restaurant that recently earned a spot on the Michelin Guide's Best Barbecue in Texas list, is making an exciting move to a new, larger location. The popular eatery, known for its unique fusion of Texas barbecue and Vietnamese flavors, is relocating from its original spot at 13111 FM 529 to the former Aguirre’s restaurant at 6166 Hwy 6 North. Aguirre's, which was renamed to Cena’s, moved to the former Willie’s Fajitas location in Copperfield at the intersection of Highway 6 and FM 529.

Chef Hong Tran and his family, who run the restaurant, are excited to expand their operations and provide more space for their growing customer base. The move to the larger location comes after the restaurant’s recent recognition by the Michelin Guide, where it was celebrated for its signature dish, the brisket fried rice, and other barbecue favorites like pork ribs.

Michelin Recognition and Signature Dishes

Brisket & Rice’s Michelin recognition, highlighted in an article published on November 12, 2024, praised the restaurant’s innovative brisket fried rice. The dish, which blends jasmine rice with a fried egg, Chinese sausage, and two slabs of perfectly smoked brisket, has become a standout item on the menu. Michelin inspectors noted the brisket as "a reflection of [Tran’s] Lone Star upbringing and Vietnamese roots."

In addition to the fried rice, the restaurant’s pork ribs have earned accolades for being “beautifully tender and delicately smoked.” The review also pointed out that customers should not miss the house-smoked meats, although sides like mac and cheese and Frito pie are also available.

A Commitment to Fresh, Local Ingredients

A key aspect of Brisket & Rice’s success is Chef Tran’s dedication to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant ensures that all dishes are prepared with the best available seasonal produce from local farmers’ markets, maintaining a high level of quality throughout the year.

“Quality is key to everything we do,” says Chef Tran. “From the brisket to the rice, we make sure everything is as fresh as possible. That’s what makes this food special.”

Expanding to Serve More Customers

The move to the larger space at 6166 Hwy 6 North is a natural progression for a restaurant that has become a local sensation, known for attracting long lines of eager customers. Chef Tran and his family are committed to maintaining the same high standards in service and quality, whether customers are dining in or taking their meals to go. With the additional space, Brisket & Rice aims to provide an even better dining experience for both regular patrons and newcomers alike.

“We’ve worked hard to make sure that even if you can’t dine in with us, you can still enjoy the same quality experience at home,” Tran explains. “Whether you’re here for the brisket or just to experience the flavors, we’re committed to making sure every order is perfect.”

Looking Ahead

Brisket & Rice's move to a larger location signals a bright future for the family-run business. With its Michelin recognition and continued dedication to quality, Brisket & Rice is poised to remain a standout in the Houston dining scene. For those craving the perfect blend of Texas barbecue and Vietnamese flavors, the new location will provide even more opportunities to enjoy the signature dishes that have earned the restaurant its widespread acclaim.
