United Education Institute Launches Hands-On Career Training Campus Near Katy to Boost Houston's Skilled Workforce

July 08 2025

United Education Institute (UEI) has officially expanded to Southwest Houston with a brand-new campus located at 9945 Bissonnet Street, just minutes from the Katy area in Southwest Houston. This expansion marks a strategic investment in Houston's workforce development, offering hands-on vocational training programs designed to help students launch careers in as little as 10 months.

The 27,500-square-foot facility is equipped with industry-standard labs and classrooms tailored to high-demand fields such as allied health and skilled trades. UEI's arrival in the Houston metro area comes at a time when employers are actively seeking trained professionals in essential roles like medical assisting, dental assisting, HVAC, and electrical services.

A Timely Investment in Houston's Workforce

“Opening our Houston campus is a significant step in UEI's commitment to delivering accessible, industry-aligned education,” said Christa Jones, Senior Vice President of Operations at United Education Institute. “Houston's vibrant economy and growing demand for skilled professionals in healthcare and trades make it an ideal location for UEI to empower individuals with the tools they need to succeed.”

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in healthcare occupations is projected to grow 13% from 2021 to 2031, adding about 2 million new jobs—faster than the average for all occupations. Similarly, the skilled trades are seeing a surge in demand: electricians and HVAC technicians are expected to experience job growth of 6% and 5% respectively during the same period, driven by new construction and the maintenance needs of an aging infrastructure.

Fast-Track Programs Designed for Job Readiness

UEI is now enrolling students for its inaugural term starting in August 2025. The Houston campus will offer career-focused programs including:

  • Dental Assistant
  • Medical Assistant
  • Medical Billing & Insurance Coding
  • Electrician Technician
  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician

Each program features a curriculum shaped by employer feedback and a focus on real-world application, ensuring students are career-ready upon graduation. The campus itself includes three labs each for medical assistant, dental assistant, HVAC, and electrician technician training, plus a Learning Resource Center, student lounge, and more than 5,000 square feet of administrative space.

Industry-Standard Training, Modern Facilities

“Our modern labs are equipped with industry-standard equipment, technology and tools, creating a real-world learning environment,” Jones explained. “Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students gain practical skills that align with employer needs, ensuring they are job-ready upon graduation.”

In an economy increasingly reliant on hands-on, technical expertise, postsecondary non-degree credentials such as those offered by UEI are proving vital. A 2023 Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce report found that nearly 30% of workers with certificates earn more than the average bachelor’s degree holder, particularly in high-demand fields like healthcare and construction.

Supporting Career Transitions and Local Growth

The new campus will also provide students with wraparound support, including job placement services, résumé building, and interview preparation—key resources for those pursuing careers in sectors fueling Houston's economic growth.

“UEI is committed to addressing Houston's workforce needs by training students for careers with strong growth potential,” Jones said. “Our programs align with the region's economic drivers, from healthcare advancements to infrastructure development, ensuring our graduates contribute to Houston's prosperity.”

With Houston’s population boom and steady demand for essential workers across Greater Katy, Alief, and Sharpstown, UEI’s expansion is poised to offer a meaningful path forward for adults seeking career change or advancement.

“UEI's curriculum is shaped by industry feedback, fostering confidence and competence for seamless career transitions,” Jones added.
