Playhouse 1960 Presents The Lion King, Jr.
Playhouse 1960, a community theater in the northwest area of Houston, is about to bring a staple of childhood to life once again with their upcoming production of Disney's 'The Lion King, Jr.' Opening on February 3, the grandeur of the African savanna and the enthralling journey from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again are set to captivate audiences.
This exhilarating, coming-of-age tale will be performed by the Playhouse 1960 Young Actors, a platform that provides kids of all ages an opportunity to shine onstage. Whether they are first-timers or experienced actors, the audience is sure to be awed by the passion of the actors.
Playhouse 1960, operating since 1973, is a non-profit, all-volunteer community theatre. They have showcased more than 10,000 performers over 500 productions and have nurtured the craft of theatre in a creative, safe, and supportive environment. Last year, Playhouse 1961 won several awards presented by the 2023 BroadwayWorld Houston Awards, including Best Direction of a Musical (Erin Urick - Company), Best Musical (Company), Best Performer in a Musical (Joseph Urick - Something Rotten), and Best Supporting Performer in a Musical (Alessandro Baldan - Beauty and the Beast).
The Lion King, Jr. performances are scheduled to run on Saturday, February 3 at 3:00 PM; Sunday, February 4 at 3:00 PM; Saturday, February 10 at 3:00 PM; and Sunday, February 11 at 3:00 PM. Each performance will run for 1 hour and 30 minutes, plus a 15-minute intermission.
