Cy-Hoops Invitational Bracket to Feature Top Teams

CFISD basketball coaches have released the finalized bracket for the 14th annual Houston Methodist Cy-Hoops Invitational, to be held Dec. 7-9 at three CFISD high schools and the Berry Center. 

The three-day, 24-team tournament is in partnership with underwriter Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and Houston Methodist West Hospital. Premier Sponsors include Cypress Lakes High School graduate De’Aaron Fox, now in his sixth NBA season with the Sacramento Kings, and former Cypress Falls High School graduate John Daspit with Daspit Law Firm, in addition to Wainwright Dental & Associates, P.C., Spradley Endodontics and Spring Cypress Oral Surgery and Implant Center. 

Proceeds from the tournament will help fund Cy-Fair Educational Foundation scholarships for graduating CFISD seniors. 

Tournament games will be played at the following locations: 

  • Bridgeland High School (10707 Mason Road); 
  • Cypress Lakes High School (5750 Greenhouse Road); 
  • Cypress Woods High School (13550 Woods-Spillane Blvd.; and 
  • the Berry Center arena (8877 Barker Cypress Road – entrance 2). 

A tournament bracket and other information are available on the Cy-Hoops page of the CFISD website. The following first-round games are set for Thursday, Dec. 7: 

5:00 p.m. 

  • Bridgeland vs. Aldine Davis, Bridgeland gym 1; 
  • Cypress Springs vs. Dickinson, Bridgeland gym 2; 
  • Langham Creek vs. Humble Summer Creek, Cypress Lakes gym 1; 
  • Cypress Creek vs. Klein Cain, Cypress Lakes gym 2; 
  • Cypress Ridge vs. McKinney, Cypress Woods gym 1; and 
  • Cy-Fair vs. Sulphur (La.), Cypress Woods gym 2; 

6:30 p.m. 

  • Jersey Village vs. Alvin Shadow Creek, Bridgeland gym 1; 
  • Cypress Ranch vs. Keller, Bridgeland gym 2; 
  • Cypress Lakes vs. League City Clear Springs, Cypress Lakes gym 1; 
  • Cypress Park vs. Waxahachie, Cypress Lakes gym 2; 
  • Cypress Woods vs. Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, Cypress Woods gym 1; and 
  • Cypress Falls vs. Pflugerville Weiss, Cypress Woods gym 2. 

All teams are guaranteed three games and will advance to play throughout the day on Friday, Dec. 8 at Bridgeland, Cypress Lakes and the Berry Center. The tournament semifinals are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Berry Center, with the championship game set for 5:30 p.m. The consolation final will follow the championship semifinals. 

Cypress Springs and Cypress Falls high schools will be among the 24-team field competing at the 14th annual Houston Methodist Cy-Hoops Invitational. Tournament games will be played at Bridgeland, Cypress Lakes and Cypress Woods high schools and the Berry Center. 
 

CFISD’s 12 high school boys’ basketball teams will participate in the tournament. Cypress Springs is currently No. 20 in Class 6A in the most recent Texas Association of Basketball Coaches rankings, joined by No. 22 Cypress Ranch and No. 23 Cypress Falls. 

The tournament field also includes 6A No. 18 Keller and 5A No. 17 Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial. Sulphur (La.) is currently No. 10 in the most recent Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division I Non-Select Power Rankings.   

 Tickets will be sold for $5 (adults) and $3 (students), with a tournament pass granting access to all games for $10. No cash will be taken and individual ticket links are available for either single day tickets and tournament passes for both Thursday and Friday, as well as single day tickets for Saturday.  

A clear bag policy is in place for the Berry Center. 

For Berry Center games only, any child or student wearing a youth/school team jersey and accompanied by a parent will be admitted free. Friday, Dec. 8 will serve as CFISD Middle School Night at the Berry Center and student-athletes not traveling with their respective teams will be admitted free with their jerseys. Halftime competitions for participants are scheduled for the 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. games.

The Rennell Elementary School cheer squad, Emmott Elementary School/Order My Steps (OMS) step team and Dance Central are scheduled to perform at halftime during games Saturday at the Berry Center. In addition, Houston Basketball Academy and Basketball For All will conduct drills and an exhibition at halftime of the fifth- and third-place games on Saturday.
