Cy-Creek, Cy-Falls Wins Boys' Hoops Title; 6 Teams Enter Playoffs

The District 16-6A and District 17-6A boys’ basketball seasons ended on Feb. 15, with six CFISD teams qualifying for the UIL playoffs.  

Cypress Creek High School put together a 12-2 record In District 17-6A play to earn the league championship. The title is the program’s second outright since 2021 and third consecutive after earning a share last season. 

Also advancing in District 17-6A is Cy-Fair High School, which finished tied with Stratford High School for second place. Both went 11-3 in district play and the Bobcats will enter the postseason as the third seed. 

Cy-Fair High School senior Marlin Meggs and the Bobcats posted a 11-3 record in District 17-6A play. They will face Houston Heights at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Morton Ranch High School in Katy. 
 

In District 16-6A, Cypress Falls High School won the title after posting a 12-2 record in league play. It’s the second consecutive title for the Golden Eagles after earning a share last season. 

The Cypress Falls High School boys’ basketball team poses with the District 16-6A championship trophy. The Golden Eagles repeated as district champions and will open the postseason against Klein at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Cypress Lakes High School.  
 

Cypress Falls finished two games ahead of Langham Creek High School, which placed second with a 10-4 record in district play. Cypress Springs High School posted an 9-5 mark to place third, whileCypress Ranch High School earned the fourth seed after finishing with an 8-6 record in district play. 

Langham Creek High School senior Michael Gillyard Jr. and the Lobos finished the regular season in second place in District 16-6A. They will face Klein Oak at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Cypress Park High School.  
 

Cypress Lakes, Cypress Ranch, Cypress Springs and Langham Creek will enter the UIL Region II-6A playoffs with the following bi-district matchups:  

  • Cypress Falls will meet Klein at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Cypress Lakes High School (5750 Greenhouse Road.); 
  • Cypress Springs will play Tomball Memorial at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Bridgeland High School (10707 Mason Road);  
  • Cypress Ranch will meet Klein Collins at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Cypress Ranch High School (10700 Fry Road); and  
  • Langham Creek will face Klein Oak at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Cypress Park High School (7425 Westgreen Blvd.). 

Cypress Creek and Cy-Fair will enter the UIL Region III-6A playoffs with the following bi-district matchups:  

  • Cypress Creek will play Houston Westside or Houston Westbury at 7 p.m. on Feb 21 at a place to be determined. If the Cougars face Houston Westside, they’ll play at Paetow High School (23111 Stockdick School Road) in Katy. If the Cougars face Houston Westbury, they’ll play at Cypress Ridge High School (7900 N. Eldridge Parkway); and 
  • Cy-Fair will face Houston Heights at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Morton Ranch High School (21000 Franz Road) in Katy. 

Tickets are $5 each for adults and students. Tickets for Cypress Falls, Cypress Springs and Cypress Ranch and Langham Creek are sold online. Tickets for Cypress Creek and Cy-Fair will be sold online through Katy ISD.
