Alpha Alpha Eta Omega - Service To All Mankind
The Alpha Alpha Eta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® proudly serves Cypress and Northwest Harris County with meaningful and impactful community programming. This year we implemented the "1908 Acts of Service" initiative where we fulfilled 1,908 Amazon Wish List items for Cypress area nonprofit organizations including Cy-Fair Helping Hands, Mesa Outreach, and the Mission of Yahweh.
We facilitated monthly college admissions and enrollment process workshops for High School students. The workshops covered topics such as the importance of GPA, college applications, scholarships, and career conversations.
Our focus on Wellness provided mental health resources to the community with the objective of empowering individuals to improve one's mental health and overall health. These resources were in the form of referrals, apps, playlists, and podcasts. A virtual Heart Healthy cooking demo was hosted by Chef Karrie Calloway, and Dr. Joycelynn Flowers-Ashton led one of the virtual restorative yoga classes.
With great joy, we hosted a virtual Youth Oratorical Contest and did our youth shine! The Youth Oratorical Contest focused on poetry from the Harlem Renaissance and Black Arts Movement. This initiative provided a forum for the students to grow in the art of public speaking.
There is so much more to share about the "Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurial Empowerment Virtual Conference" hosted in partnership with Chase Bank. Experts from the community included Attorney R. Michelle Bolden who discussed "Wills, Trusts, & Estate Planning". Our amazing guest speaker, Misti Buardi, the winner of the Food Network™ Great Food Truck Race: Alaska focused on Entrepreneurship.
