VFW Post 8905’s 39th Semi-Annual BBQ Cook-Off Set for September 12–13 in Cypress
Smoke, sizzle, and service will come together once again as VFW Post 8905 in Cypress hosts its 39th Semi-Annual BBQ Cook-Off on September 12 and 13, 2025, at 21902 Northwest Freeway. This highly anticipated event—open to the public—serves as one of the largest grassroots fundraisers for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8905, helping support local veterans in crisis and providing aid across the Cypress community.
Presented by VFW Post 8905 and the Post 8905 Auxiliary, the two-day event invites the Greater Houston area to enjoy award-winning BBQ, community fellowship, and family-friendly fun in the post’s spacious backyard, with nearly 30 cook-off teams expected to compete.
BBQ, Auctions, and Community Spirit
On Friday, September 12, the action begins at 5:00 PM with scheduled events including a silent auction, live auction, and awards ceremony running through 6:30 PM. Attendees will also have the chance to try their luck at a Meat Wheel, Liquor Wagon Raffle, and other local raffles throughout the weekend.
Saturday, September 13 will feature the official IBCA-sanctioned cook-off, where teams will submit entries in five categories: one (1) chicken half, eight pork spare ribs, eight slices of brisket, beans (open), and no dessert. BBQ plates will be available to the public from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM for $20, with all proceeds directly benefiting veteran services and local outreach efforts.

"This event is open to everyone," organizers emphasized. "We’ve got music, local vendors, food, raffles, and a great community atmosphere. Whether you’re here for the brisket or the auctions, you’re helping us make a real impact for veterans and their families."
Fundraising for a Cause
Proceeds from the 39th BBQ Cook-Off will go toward the post’s programs to support military families, assist veterans in crisis, and carry out community service projects in the Cypress area. Funds raised help provide emergency financial assistance, food, housing support, and VA claims guidance to those who served.
The semi-annual cook-offs have become a signature tradition for the post. Earlier this spring, the 38th edition drew hundreds of attendees and helped expand veteran outreach programs, as well as community events like steak nights, bingo, and support during natural disasters.
