Unleash Potential in Katy Area Teens: Local Fire Department Opens Registration for Camp Spark

March 10 2024

Attention all Katy area teens! Get ready to ignite your potential and explore a novel and exciting career path. The registration for the highly-anticipated Camp Spark by Harris County ESD No. 48 Fire Department (HCESD48) is officially open!

Enter the world of firefighters and EMS professionals with Camp Spark, a uniquely transformative experience designed for young women aged 14-18. The camp will take place from June 10 to 13, 2024, offering participants unparalleled insights into these heroic professions.

Inspiring young women to make a difference, Camp Spark embraces the spirit of International Women’s Day, aligning its registration opening on March 8, 2024. Be one of the 25 motivated students who will train, learn, and engage in real-life Fire/EMS simulations right here in Katy.

The camp is more than just a fun summer activity. It's a life-altering journey of discovery that empowers young women. Participants will engage in physical training, attend insightful classes, and interact with female firefighters and medics from HCESD48 and other Greater Houston Area departments.

HCESD48 is also thrilled to announce that Mrs. Colorado 2021, Danette Haag, will return to Camp Spark this year. Danette, a motivational guru and a registered nurse, is the recipient of the 2019 Northern Colorado Woman of Courage award. Through her empowering "Beauty from Ashes" program, she shares her own narrative of overcoming a severe burn injury. Her story inspires campers to identify their inherent beauty, recognize life's blessings amid hardship, and embrace the strength within them.

In 2023, Danette delivered her inspiring program "Unstoppable" to our camp participants. Aimed at helping teen girls see their incredible value and inspire them to live a full life, this program solidified the ethos of Camp Spark and resonates deeply with its mission.

With limited spots available, don't miss out on this opportunity to have a fun, empowering, and transformative summer experience. Due to the high volume of applications, HCESD48 is requesting that only those who can commit to attending all four days of the camp register. Cadets will be notified on or before April 1, 2024.
