‘Tis the Season for Sounds of Joy: LSC-CyFair’s Music Department Showcases Student Talent with Three Holiday Concerts
As the holidays approach, Lone Star College-CyFair is inviting the community to come together and share in the joy of music with a trio of student performances sure to stir hearts and lift spirits. The LSC-CyFair Music Department is closing out the fall semester with a harmonious celebration of talent, passion, and seasonal cheer—offering local audiences a chance to be both entertained and inspired.
From traditional carols to original student compositions, the concert lineup spans the musical spectrum, with each event providing a unique glimpse into the creativity and discipline of the college’s student musicians.
The performance series kicks off on Thursday, Nov. 21 with the Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra concert, followed by the Percussion Ensemble and Composers Club concert on Monday, Dec. 2. These instrumental performances will showcase a wide range of styles and arrangements, all brought to life by the students who have spent the semester fine-tuning their art. Then, on Thursday, Dec. 5, audiences can enjoy the highly anticipated “Sounds of Wonder!” choral concert, a celebration of timeless holiday music and emotional expression.
Dr. Paulo Gomes, Director of Vocal Division and Choral Activities at LSC-CyFair, shared his passion for what these performances represent for both students and the wider community.

“Come rejoice and be glad as you immerse yourselves in a heartfelt musical exploration of beauty, joy, reflections and emotions drawn from the simple sounds important to our lives,” said Gomes. “Our choirs will bring a tapestry of expressive music by composers and educators Elaine Hagenberg, Shawn Kirchner, Josh Sparkman, Dan Forrest and others.”
The Dec. 5 concert is expected to be a seasonal highlight for the Cypress community, combining beloved Christmas classics with emotionally rich works that speak to the human experience. The joy of these performances, however, goes beyond the music itself. For the student musicians, these concerts are the culmination of months of hard work—and having an audience to perform for adds a vital element to their growth.
Sharing their music with a live audience plays a vital role in student development, helping them gain confidence, refine their stage presence, and understand the full impact of their performance. It also offers the community a meaningful opportunity to engage with young local artists and support the next generation of performers. When the community shows up, it can help remind students that their creativity matters.
All three concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the Main Stage Theatre on the LSC-CyFair campus. Tickets can be purchased online at LoneStar.edu/boxoffice. Concertgoers are encouraged to secure their seats early, as these events often fill quickly, especially during the festive season.
