The Black Cowboy Museum's Hall of Fame Museum Set to Open June 19
The Black Cowboy Museum is excited to announce the grand opening and celebration of its newest addition this Juneteenth. The Black Cowboy Hall of Fame Museum will open for tours on Monday, June 19 at 9:00 AM. The Black Cowboy Hall of Fame Museum is located at 1104 3rd Street in Rosenberg.
Cowboy Larry Callies invites you and the kids to come out this Juneteenth. In celebration of the grand opening, the Museum is offering half price entry of $5, and kids 12 and under are free. Patrons will also have an opportunity to take photos with horses for just $5. At the grand opening celebration, Callies will share his exciting personal story of tracing his Texas cowboy ancestry back to 1860, with real photographs of slaves working cattle. During Callies' research, he was able to trace his ancestry all the way back to 1437.
Founded by Larry Callies, The Black Cowboy Museum is preserving the legacy of America's Black Cowboy. Callies is a professional cowboy, singer, writer, and museum curator. He grew up in a segregated Southeast Texas over three decades on ranches, singing Country Western songs at the then-segregated Gilley's Nightclub with Gilley's all white band, and took on life-risking bull penning jobs. A passion project for Callies, The Black Cowboy Museum is the first museum honoring the long history of the Black Cowboy Heritage. Patrons at The Black Cowboy Museum are invited to step into the boots of the likes of Bass Reeves, Nat Love, and Bill Pickett, and meet the important African American cowboys who shaped the history of the West, as well as those who will shape its future.
