Students Return to Classes for the 2023-2024 School Year

August 30 2023

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD welcomed students back to 95 campuses Aug. 28, beginning the 2023-2024 school year that marks the district’s 84th year in existence.

The beginning of the year was highlighted by the opening of two campuses. Brosnahan Elementary School, CFISD’s 58th elementary school, is located on Clay Road in Katy. Sprague Middle School is CFISD’s 20th middle school and located in the Bridgeland High School educational village.

“The first day of school was such an exciting day for us,” said Elizabeth Bradley, Sprague principal. “We’re very excited to see all the different opportunities this new building will be able to provide, and it will be fun to see students experience this learning concept of an educational village with Wells Elementary School and Bridgeland High School.”

Multiple CFISD elementary campuses opened their doors to students following a variety of renovation projects, including safety and security upgrades funded by the 2019 and 2014 bond programs. Some upgrades include segmentation of classrooms, security fencing around campuses, additional card readers, classroom phones and impact-resistant glass.

“To experience the first day of school of a brand-new campus is beyond awesome,” said Dr. Renee Silliman, Brosnahan principal. “The work and preparation that the district and staff members have put in so that our community has a beautiful school is beyond comparison. It’s so exciting to be part of an inaugural staff that made our ideas and dreams come to life for our Broncos! The first day was amazing and it just continue to get better each day. Let’s go Broncos!”

The first day allowed students and parents to see the outpouring of support for CFISD. School namesakes, Board of Trustees members, CFISD administrators and a number of community members helped welcome students throughout the day. Many visited elementary campuses to serve as Bus Buddies in the afternoon.

“We have one of the highest-performing school districts in the state with so many academic and extracurricular opportunities,” said Dr. Mark Henry, CFISD superintendent of schools. “We want to find a place for every student so that they have a great year not only academically, but in other areas as well in order to receive a complete education.”
