Six Katy ISD High Schools Recognized on 2024 AP School Honor Roll for Excellence in College Readiness
Six high schools in Katy Independent School District (ISD) have earned prestigious recognition on the 2024 Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll. Four of these schools were also distinguished with AP Access Awards, acknowledging their dedication to expanding access to AP courses for underrepresented and low-income students.
The Katy ISD schools recognized on the AP Honor Roll include Cinco Ranch High School, Jordan High School, Katy High School, Seven Lakes High School, Taylor High School, and Tompkins High School. Among these, Cinco Ranch High School, Jordan High School, Seven Lakes High School, and Tompkins High School received the additional AP Access Award, which is granted to schools that have made notable strides in providing AP opportunities to a more diverse student body.
The AP School Honor Roll, established by the College Board, highlights schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to college preparedness and offer students the opportunity to earn college credit through AP exams. Schools are evaluated based on three key components: college culture, college credit, and college optimization. These criteria assess the percentage of students who take AP exams, the percentage who score a 3 or higher (the score generally required for college credit), and the number of students who engage in more rigorous AP coursework throughout their high school years.

“We are extremely proud of these schools for their dedication to college readiness,” said Dr. Christine Caskey, Chief Academic Officer for Katy ISD. “Katy ISD is the standard of excellence in education in the Houston area, and this award shows that our students are ready to succeed in higher education as well.”
To achieve a spot on the AP School Honor Roll, schools must meet specific performance thresholds in each category. For Gold status, schools must meet 65% of the College Culture metric, 35% of the College Credit metric, and 10% of the College Optimization metric. Silver status is awarded to schools meeting 50%, 30%, and 5% in these respective categories, while Bronze status is given to schools meeting 40%, 25%, and 2%.
Additionally, the AP Access Award acknowledges schools where the percentage of underrepresented and/or low-income students enrolled in AP courses is equal to or greater than the percentage in the graduating class. This honor emphasizes the district’s commitment to educational equity, ensuring all students have access to rigorous academic opportunities regardless of their background.
In May 2024, Katy ISD saw significant participation in the AP program, with 9,502 students taking a total of 21,112 AP exams. Remarkably, 82% of those exams earned a score of 3 or better, qualifying students for college credit at many institutions.
