Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Katy Rotary Club's Generous Donation Fuels Restoration of Katy Heritage Society's Historic Bandstand
In a collaborative effort to support Katy's rich history, the Katy Heritage Society recently secured a generous donation of $6,000 from the Katy Rotary Club to address critical repairs needed for the iconic bandstand in the city's Heritage Park. The donation, sponsored by long-time Katy Rotary Club member David Frishman and supported by Jaime Corona, the club's President, along with key members of the grant committee, marks a significant milestone in the budding relationship between the two organizations.
Although this is the first grant awarded to the Katy Heritage Society by the Katy Rotary Club, the two organizations already share a close-knit relationship, with many Katy Rotary Club members also being long-standing supporters or members of the Katy Heritage Society. The collaboration between the Katy Heritage Society and the Katy Rotary Club was a seamless fit due to their shared core values and joint mission to support Katy.
When Marilyn Frishman, secretary of the Heritage Society, approached her husband David Frishman, a dedicated Katy Rotary Club member, about the urgent need for bandstand repairs, it naturally aligned with the Rotary Club's commitment to community service. This partnership reflects a collective effort to preserve Katy's history and enhance the community.
While this marks the first time the Katy Heritage Society has sought a grant from the Katy Rotary Club, the impact of this contribution is substantial. The bandstand, a centerpiece in Heritage Park, is in dire need of attention. The original cedar shake roof, dating back around 20 years, has deteriorated, posing significant structural and aesthetic concerns. Thanks to the grant, Venus Construction will undertake the restoration, including the removal of the existing roof, installation of a sub deck, re-shingling, and painting the bandstand's ceiling.
Throughout the year, the bandstand serves as a focal point for numerous annual and special events, including Christmas in the Park, the 20th anniversary celebration of the park, the 150th Anniversary of Waller County, and Easter festivities. Additionally, it has been witness to countless weddings and family photoshoots. The bandstand, with its unique historical charm, is integral to the cultural vibrancy of the community.
This significant donation from the Katy Rotary Club comes at a crucial time for the Katy Heritage Society, the city's oldest non-profit organization. Collaborative efforts with the Rotary Club, coupled with support from the community, are essential to the maintenance and preservation of Katy's historic structures.
The Katy Heritage Society extends heartfelt appreciation to the Katy Rotary Club for their generosity and commitment to preserving the city's heritage. As the bandstand undergoes restoration, the society looks forward to a continued partnership with the Katy Rotary Club, aiming to build a lasting relationship that benefits the community and fosters the shared values of historical preservation and community engagement.
