The Academy, known for its unique blend of Montessori and Reggio Emilia philosophies, aims to provide a child-centered learning environment that fosters creativity, independence, and critical thinking.

With over 12 years of experience in education and early childhood development, Matthews brings a wealth of knowledge to her leadership role. Originally from the Philippines, she transitioned from a background in human resource management to special education, focusing on autism and ADHD. After moving to the United States, she discovered her passion for early childhood education, working her way from toddler teacher to school director. Her diverse experience plays a vital role in shaping the Academy’s approach to individualized learning.

The Academy stands out by seamlessly integrating Montessori and Reggio Emilia principles. Montessori education emphasizes self-directed learning, hands-on exploration, and individualized instruction, while the Reggio Emilia approach fosters creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving through project-based learning.
“Our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity and a love for learning,” Matthews said. “From interactive, hands-on materials to collaborative activities, we encourage children to think critically, explore their interests, and develop foundational skills that will serve them well in primary education and beyond.”
Adding to its unique offerings, Montessori Reggio Academy of Katy will feature a Primary classroom (ages 3-6) enriched with the Cambridge University curriculum, making it the first Cambridge Early Years School in Texas. The Academy also integrates IXL Learning technology and holds Cognia certification, ensuring a high standard of academic excellence.
