Katy ISD Board Member Lance Redmon Earns Master Trustee Designation from TASB
In a significant achievement highlighting unwavering commitment to education and community service, Katy ISD board member, Lance Redmon, has received the Master Trustee designation from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), according to a recent release issued by the district.
The TASB's Leadership program, known as Leadership TASB, aims to inspire school board trustees to be proactive, visionary leaders who champion educational excellence in Texas public schools. The program is a powerful tool for nurturing leadership through research, best practices, and community engagement that drives school improvement efforts.
The Leadership TASB program is grueling and highly selective, limited to just 36 trustees each year. Applicants must demonstrate strong evidence of leadership on their board and within their community. They also need proof of completing minimum required training and must have been serving on an active member school board for at least the preceding 18 months.
This year, Redmon was selected among the select 33 trustees that undertook this intensive year-long program, accruing over 75 hours of training. By doing so, they have heightened their ability to improve student outcomes, influence policy on state and national education issues, and work efficiently as board members of Texas public school districts.
Redmon, who has been serving the Katy ISD Board of Trustees since 2019, representing Position 2, reflected on his leadership journey. "My faith teaches me to consider others better than myself and to look out for their interests. This perspective has guided me throughout my service,” he said. He stressed that leadership, for him, is centered on service, humility, and integrity, underscoring his commitment to positively impacting the lives of those he serves.
In addition to his board duties, Redmon is actively involved in his community, having volunteered for the Katy ISD Education Foundation Board, Katy Improvement Council, and the parent teacher association (PTA). He is also a graduate of Katy ISD's Leadership Katy program and has contributed to his local church.
Victor Perez, Katy ISD Board President, expressed the Board's commendation. "The Board congratulates Trustee Redmon on completing the Leadership TASB program," he said.
Since 1993, Leadership TASB has produced more than 1000 Master Trustees, reflecting its critical role in shaping education leadership in Texas. With his achievement, Redmon continues this tradition of excellence, exemplifying the ideals of ethical leadership, commitment to personal growth, and improving student performance through board service.
