Internationally Acclaimed Norwegian Brass Ensemble Coming to Champions Area in March
Mark your calendars for an unforgettable night of musical brilliance as the internationally acclaimed tenThing Brass Ensemble from Norway takes the stage at The Centrum on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
Celebrating Women’s History Month, tenThing, led by world-class trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth, brings a new program that empowers the feminine voice through musical creativity. Showcasing the works of Nadia and Lili Boulanger, pioneers in the traditionally male-dominated field of orchestral conducting and composition, tenThing redefines the brass ensemble's stereotype. Their repertoire also features the enchanting "Barcarolle" by Borghild Holmsen, excellently blending their Norwegian heritage with the global music scene.
Their exciting program also includes the much-anticipated U.S. premiere of “Ten of Hearts” by Jennifer Higdon, composed explicitly for the ensemble in 2023. Moreover, fans of Astor Piazzolla's Argentine tango renditions and Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz's dance forms are in for a treat. Lovers of jazz can look forward to a surprise by the ensemble - perhaps a new take on classics by Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holliday?
Established in 2007 as an exciting collaboration between musical friends, tenThing quickly gained nationwide popularity in Norway, leading to their international success. They've performed at a plethora of prestigious festivals and venues, including the BBC Proms, Beethoven Bonn, Bremen festivals, Merano and Sienna festivals, the NCPA Beijing May Festival, and Moscow’s House of Music.
This captivating performance is brought to you by Cypress Creek FACE, a non-profit performing arts foundation that's committed to providing the community with cultural arts programming and educational opportunities. With a focus on education, Cypress Creek FACE also provides master classes, free children’s concerts, special student ticket pricing, two summer string camps, and even four college scholarships to area students.
Tickets are available at $20, $25, $30 and $40, and can be purchased at cypresscreekface.org.
