Fulshear Police to Serve Up Support at Tip a Cop Fundraiser for Special Olympics Texas
The Fulshear Police Department is rolling up their sleeves in a different type of service on July 25, 2024 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Instead of their usual patrols, local officers will be serving hot rolls and drinks at the Texas Roadhouse located at 4807 Waterview Meadow Drive in Richmond, for a special cause close to their hearts.
The event, named "Tip a Cop", aims to raise funds for the Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), which benefits Special Olympics Texas. The fundraising target for this year's event is $5,000, which can be met through patrons' tips or online donations.
The Torch Run, started in 1981 by Wichita, Kansas Police Chief Richard LaMunyon, has been a beacon of hope in communities around the globe. Known as the "Guardians of the Flame", law enforcement members carry the Flame of Hope into opening ceremonies of different Special Olympics events. This flame symbolizes courage and the celebration of diversity uniting communities worldwide. Over the years, the LETR's efforts have raised over $600 million for Special Olympics programs, changing the future for people with intellectual disabilities.
Special Olympics Texas, the beneficiary of this initiative, is a year-round movement that provides sports training and athletic competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Born from the vision and pioneering efforts of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, this organization has grown into a global movement, serving more than 6 million people with intellectual disabilities in over 200 countries.
On July 25, drop by Texas Roadhouse in Richmond and give a different kind of tip. Your contribution will not only help support Special Olympic athletes in your community but also kindle the "Flame of Hope" that lights the way for acceptance and inclusion.
