Fort Bend County Officials Issue Status Report on Hurricane Beryl Recovery Efforts

Fort Bend County, under the Federal Disaster Declaration for the state of Texas, has sustained over $20 million in damages due to Hurricane Beryl. The following status report provides updates on recovery efforts:

CenterPoint Energy has reported a decrease in power outages, with the number of affected customers now at 89,160, down from the initial 353,292. AT&T and Verizon services have been disrupted by the power outages, and data services will be restored as power is restored.

Debris management efforts are being coordinated debris with pickup to begin tomorrow. Residents are encouraged to follow information on preparing debris for pickup. Preparation information has been released on social media and the Fort Bend County OEM website at fbcoem.org.

The 24-hour shelter at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds, Building C., located at 4310 Hwy. 36 South, Rosenberg, TX 77471, is currently housing 90 individuals. Additionally, the Attack Poverty Shelter, located at 1908 Avenue E., Rosenberg, TX 77471, is housing 22 individuals.

Under a sustained heat advisory, additional Cooling Centers have been opened today at River Pointe Church in Richmond, Fresno Fire Station – ESD7, Mark A. Chapman YMCA in Katy, Fort Bend County Libraries, and mobile cooling stations via Coach buses in Katy, Sugar Land, Missouri City, and Stafford. This information has been shared via social media.

The County Facilities Department has been diligently assessing the condition of county buildings, which experienced significant infrastructure damage. Progress has been made with the power restoration of six critical operations buildings. Evaluations are ongoing to determine when the county can return to normal business operations.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains activated at level 2, coordinating recovery efforts. The EOC has seen a tremendous turnout of employees from impacted departments assisting EOC staff in recovery efforts. Fort Bend HHS, in coordination with EMS, is reaching out to Enable Fort Bend residents to ensure their needs are met and to provide any necessary assistance.

Transportation Update

Commuter services are operating at full capacity, while demand response services are available for medical appointments only. Disaster relief services for sheltered individuals are being provided according to schedule.

Water and Ice Distribution

Fort Bend County has activated its Point of Distribution (POD) plans and is working to open POD sites to distribute water and ice to residents.

Due to these ongoing efforts, Fort Bend County Offices will be closed on Friday, July 12, 2024.
