CFISD was recently named a Texas Thespians Premier Community for Theatre Education for the second consecutive year, while 45 CFISD students secured spots in the prestigious 2024-2025 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State ensembles.
Theatre Education Excellence: Texas Thespians Premier Community Award
On January 24, 2025, CFISD was awarded the Texas Thespians Premier Community for Theatre Education Award, which honors districts that support theatre programs in alignment with Educational Theatre Association standards, Texas Theatre Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and International Thespian Society involvement.
To qualify, CFISD completed a rigorous evaluation process that reviewed curriculum, facilities, technical resources, safety, and production elements. The recognition highlights the district's commitment to fostering a robust theatre education environment.

“Our district is incredibly proud to be recognized as a Premier Community for Theatre Education by Texas Thespians for the second year in a row,” said Kelley Hughes, CFISD’s coordinator of secondary fine arts. “This honor reflects the outstanding talent, creativity, and dedication of our theatre educators, who pour their hearts into building exceptional programs for our students.”
Texas Thespians is the largest affiliate chapter of the Educational Theatre Association, representing over 16,000 students and more than 600 troupes statewide. It offers educational festivals, workshops, and professional development for both students and educators.
Michelle Nguyen-Le, head theatre director at Cypress Ridge High School and CFISD alumna, emphasized the significance of the award. “Being a former CFISD student makes this recognition even more special,” she said. “Now, as a teacher, I’m so grateful to give my students the same opportunities that inspired me. Together, we are shaping the next generation of storytellers, leaders, and innovators.”
Musical Talent Spotlight: 45 Students Named to TMEA All-State Ensembles
In music education, CFISD celebrated another milestone as 45 high school musicians earned TMEA All-State honors for the 2024-2025 school year. Selected through a highly competitive process involving over 70,000 student auditions, these students represent the top 2.7% of Texas music participants.
“This is an incredible accomplishment that celebrates the hard work, determination, and outstanding performance by these students,” said John Morrison, CFISD’s director of fine arts.
The All-State designation is the highest achievement a Texas music student can receive. The selected students will attend the TMEA Clinic/Convention in San Antonio from February 12-15, where they will rehearse with world-class conductors and perform in distinguished ensembles.

Among the honorees are musicians from across CFISD’s high schools, showcasing talent in band, choir, and orchestra. Notable students include Bridgeland’s Sydney Dumoit, Cy-Fair’s Shane Wyatt, Cypress Ranch’s Bee Linton, and Jersey Village’s Oliver Tran.
As CFISD continues to cultivate exceptional talent in both theatre and music, the community is encouraged to support these remarkable students by attending performances such as musical theatre productions, choir concerts, orchestra performances, and more.
