CFISD Recognized for Excellence in School Safety, Student Wellness

April 27 2023

CFISD is one of eight school districts nationwide to earn the 2023 District Excellence in School Safety & Student Wellness recognition, presented by education safety leader Navigate360.

Representatives from Navigate360 visited CFISD’s Safety and Security Committee meeting on April 27 to present the award, in conjunction with National Youth Violence Prevention Week (April 24-28).

“Cypress-Fairbanks ISD proudly accepts this recognition from Navigate360,” said Dr. Mark Henry, CFISD superintendent of schools. “This is a shared honor by our emergency management, CFISD police, psychological services and facilities/construction departments, whose proactive approach toward protecting students and staff has made CFISD campuses among the safest in the state.”

CFISD earned the recognition due to a commitment to holistic violence prevention and emergency preparedness efforts to keep schools, staff and students safe, led by districtwide collaboration of cross-functional stakeholders. Navigate360 cited leaders including Scott Hudson, director of emergency management; Dr. Traci Schluter, director of psychological services; and Dr. Michelle Pastorek, Mental Health Intervention Team psychologist; who share insights, best practices and implementation knowledge with other districts through speaking engagements and webinars.

Navigate360 commended CFISD for its proactive strategies for violence prevention through threat assessment, early intervention, universal student support and school safety; as well as emergency preparedness and management.
