Building Hope: GHBA Benefit Homes Project Sets New Record in Charitable Giving with Home in Elyson
The Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) Benefit Homes Project is set to provide consecutive donations to local charities. This initiative, established 44 years ago by the GHBA Board of Directors, brings together GHBA members who construct beautiful homes that are sold at market prices. All profits are donated to three important foundations: HomeAid Houston, Operation Finally Home, and the GHBA Charitable Foundation.
One notable donation this year came from Chesmar Homes, who contributed a whopping $405,000 earlier this month from the sale of a home built through a partnership with Brookfield Properties at Elyson by Newland in Katy, one of Houston’s largest residential projects. Elyson extends over 3,642 acres off Grand Parkway and FM 529, offering scenic views and luxury amenities. The community is ideally positioned for active homeowners, families who enjoy time outdoors and families with growing needs. At completion, Elyson will feature approximately 6,000 modern homes with cozy and classy interiors ranging in size and price.
The swift sale at 24202 Palm Warbler Court has resulted in the largest donation to the GHBA Benefit Homes Project since it began, setting an impressive precedent for community assistance and industry-specific workforce funding. This year alone, the Benefit Homes Project has donated nearly $1 million to the associated charities.

With these funds, the charitable partners can continue to support those less fortunate in the community, as well as promote workforce development within the residential construction industry.
GHBA President Matthew Reibenstein proudly stated, “Our members love to give back. We have an understanding that it’s our duty to serve and give back to the community and industry that has helped build our businesses.”
Charities such as HomeAid Houston, the local chapter of HomeAid America - the nation's largest provider of transitional shelters for the homeless, will greatly benefit from these donations. Operation Finally Home, another recipient, primarily focuses on the pressing need of providing homes for returning heroes and their families.
The house sold was an impressive 2,988-square-foot family home featuring Chesmar Homes' Sweetwater layout. Comprised of four bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and a two-car garage, this house hosts a perfect blend of open and closed spaces to suit everyone's needs. For Chesmar Homes, their affiliation with the GHBA Benefit Homes Project runs deep, having built an impressive nine homes and raised approximately $2.5 million for local charities over the years.
Scott Merovitch, City President of Chesmar Homes, said, "Building a person's home is very personal. We don't take that experience for granted. To be able to give back to the community and our industry by doing what we are most passionate about - it doesn't get much better than that. We're happy to do it."
