Terry Wong of Award-Winning Blood Bros. BBQ Joins Phat Eatery as Culinary Director
Phat Eatery, the highly acclaimed Malaysian street food restaurant in Houston, has announced the addition of Terry Wong of the award-winning Blood Bros. BBQ to its leadership team. Wong, a celebrated restaurateur and co-founder of Blood Bros. BBQ and LuLoo's Day & Night, will serve as Culinary Director, overseeing both Phat Eatery locations in Katy and The Woodlands.
The move marks a significant step for Phat Eatery as it continues to grow following the passing of its beloved founder, Alex Au-Yeung, in early 2024. Wong’s appointment is expected to bring fresh innovation to the menu while staying true to Au-Yeung’s culinary legacy.
A Legacy of Culinary Excellence
Wong is no stranger to Houston’s food scene, having co-founded Blood Bros. BBQ, a restaurant that has received national recognition for its creative fusion of Texas barbecue with Asian, Caribbean, and Mediterranean influences. Under his leadership, Blood Bros. BBQ has received numerous accolades, including a Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand (2024), recognition in The New York Times' Top 50 Restaurants in America (2021), a spot on Bon Appétit’s Best New Restaurants list (2019), and inclusion in Texas Monthly’s Top 25 New Barbecue Joints (2019).

His diverse culinary background makes him a natural fit for Phat Eatery, which has become a staple in Houston’s Asian food scene since opening in 2018.
Phat Eatery Welcomes Wong’s Expertise
Phat Eatery leadership expressed excitement over Wong joining the team, noting his deep-rooted connection to the restaurant’s late founder.
“We’re beyond excited to welcome Terry Wong to the Phat Eatery family! Terry isn’t just an incredible culinary force and restaurateur but also a dear old friend of our late founder, Chef Alex Au-Yeung,”the team shared.

Wong will work alongside Kevin Le, Marvin He, and the rest of Phat Eatery’s leadership team to push the restaurant to new heights while preserving the legacy of authentic Malaysian cuisine that Au-Yeung championed.
“With him on board, we’re ready to push Phat Eatery to new heights—honoring tradition and Alex’s vision while embracing creativity and celebrating Houston,” the restaurant stated.
Exciting New Culinary Innovations
One of Wong’s first projects at Phat Eatery will be leading the launch of the long-awaited Cantonese barbecue program, which has been in development since Au-Yeung’s passing. His expertise in slow-smoked meats and Asian fusion flavors is expected to elevate the restaurant’s offerings even further.
“From our long-awaited Cantonese barbecue program to exciting new specials, there’s so much to look forward to,” Phat Eatery’s team noted.

The expansion of new menu specials and chef-driven dishes under Wong’s leadership is expected to continue attracting both loyal customers and first-time visitors to Phat Eatery’s Katy and The Woodlands locations.
“We know Alex would be proud,” the restaurant added, emphasizing its commitment to carrying on Au-Yeung’s vision.
A Bright Future for Phat Eatery
Since opening in 2018, Phat Eatery has become a go-to destination for authentic Malaysian cuisine in Houston, serving up favorites like roti canai, beef rendang, and curry laksa. The restaurant’s second location in The Woodlands, which debuted in June 2024, has already been met with widespread acclaim.
