Buy New Year’s Fireworks in Katy to Support Local Veterans Through American Legion Post 164
As Katy families prepare to ring in the New Year, American Legion Jonathan D. Rozier Post 164 is once again offering residents a way to celebrate while giving back to the community. The Post’s semi-annual fireworks sale, a familiar tradition for many local families, is now underway at its Kingsland Boulevard location, with proceeds supporting veterans, youth leadership programs, and year-round community initiatives.
The New Year’s fireworks stand is part of the same long-running fundraiser residents may recognize from Post 164’s Fourth of July sale earlier this year. While the colors and celebrations change with the season, the mission remains the same: turning holiday traditions into meaningful local impact.
Located at 22125 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, TX 77450, the American Legion Post 164 fireworks stand is open daily through January 1, offering a wide selection of consumer fireworks for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Purchasing fireworks directly from the Post ensures that funds stay local, helping support veterans and families throughout the Katy area.
A Katy Veterans Organization with Deep Roots
American Legion Post 164 was founded in 2001 by area veterans, including members of VFW Post 9182 and others who were not eligible for VFW membership but still sought camaraderie and a way to serve. The Post held its first organizing meeting at Mary Jo Peckham Park, a deliberate choice that anchored the organization in the Katy community from the start.
In 2004, the Post was officially named the Jonathan D. Rozier Post 164 in honor of Lt. Jonathan D. Rozier, a Katy-area resident and U.S. Army officer who was killed in action in Iraq and posthumously awarded the Bronze Star for Valor. His legacy continues through the Post’s ongoing service and community involvement.
Today, Post 164 is part of The American Legion, a congressionally chartered veterans organization founded in 1919. With more than 2.4 million members worldwide and over 14,000 posts across the United States and abroad, the American Legion focuses on veteran advocacy, patriotism, youth development, and community service. Locally, Post 164 maintains a membership of more than 300 and includes the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 164, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 164, and American Legion Riders Chapter 164—together known as the Legion Family 164 in Katy.

Why Fireworks Sales Matter to the Community
The semi-annual fireworks sales play a critical role in funding Post 164’s programs and outreach. Proceeds help support initiatives such as the American Legion Boys State program, which sends outstanding Katy-area high school juniors to the University of Texas at Austin each summer for an intensive leadership and government education experience. Over the years, dozens of local students have represented Katy through this program.
Additional support goes toward scholarships, oratorical contests centered on the U.S. Constitution, veterans outreach at nursing homes, holiday service projects, and community traditions like the annual Flag Retirement Ceremony and Ice Cream Social. Fireworks purchases also help fund the Post’s participation in Memorial Day events, Veterans Day programs, the Katy Rodeo Parade, and Pearl Harbor Day commemorations.

Fireworks Safety and Burn Ban Update
Both Harris County and Fort Bend County have lifted their burn bans as of early December, allowing for legal fireworks use where permitted. Harris County’s burn ban was lifted on December 5, 2025, while Fort Bend County lifted its ban on December 4, 2025.
Even with lifted restrictions, Post 164 encourages residents to follow fireworks safety best practices. This includes keeping fireworks away from homes and dry grass, supervising children at all times, wearing eye protection, having water nearby, and properly disposing of spent fireworks. Residents should also remain mindful of neighbors, pets, and local noise ordinances.
In addition to general safety guidelines, Katy residents are encouraged to check with their local city or county government and review their homeowners association rules before using fireworks. Regulations can vary by jurisdiction and neighborhood, and some HOAs maintain specific restrictions related to fireworks use, timing, or location. Taking a moment to confirm local ordinances and community guidelines helps ensure celebrations remain safe, respectful, and in compliance with all applicable rules.
