Katy ISD's JROTC Excels in First Drill Meet of the Season
Katy ISD's Navy JROTC unit based at Mayde Creek High School secured an impressive third place in its first drill meet of the season. Placing within a narrow 100-point margin among the leading three teams, Katy ISD's JROTC unit showcased their remarkable skills in a fierce competition held at Spring High School.
The JROTC program, formally established by Public Law in 1964, has been cultivating responsible, informed, and patriotic citizens throughout the nation, via various accredited secondary schools. The accredited curriculum stresses the importance of leadership and citizenship development, and imparts knowledge on maritime heritage, naval operations fundamentals, seamanship, navigation and meteorology.
In addition to classroom instruction, the JROTC program encourages comprehensive development through extracurricular activities like community service, academic and athletic competitions, field meets, flights, and visits to naval activities, among others. It plays a pivotal role in promoting high school completion, higher education, and community service, alongside molding a high degree of personal honor, self-reliance, individual discipline, and leadership. The program also provides viable career options in the military services while promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
