Katy Heritage Society Opens Unique Scholarship Opportunity for Adult Learners and Career Changers
The Katy Heritage Society is currently accepting applications for its 2025 adult scholarship program—a distinctive educational opportunity designed to support individuals who live or work within Katy ISD boundaries and are returning to school, pursuing a professional certification, or learning a trade.
Unlike traditional academic scholarships aimed at recent high school graduates, the Katy Heritage Society Scholarship is purposefully crafted for adult learners and working professionals seeking to grow their skills or switch careers. Open to individuals aged 18 and older, the scholarship offers up to $1,000 toward tuition or certification costs for those enrolled in college, vocational programs, or trade schools.
Applications are due by October 1, 2025, and the winner will be announced on November 20, 2025, at the society’s General Meeting.
But this scholarship isn’t just about funding—it’s about connection to community. Applicants are asked to submit a short application along with an original research essay on an aspect of Katy’s rich and evolving history. From tales of rice farming and railroads to stories of local heroes, these essays are an opportunity for residents to help preserve the very legacy that shaped their hometown.

Designed to support individuals who are working to improve their lives, families, and the broader community, the Katy Heritage Society views the scholarship as a way to honor the past while empowering those who are shaping the future through continued education.
Whether you’re a parent going back to school after raising kids, a veteran learning a new trade, or someone determined to finish a degree started long ago, the Katy Heritage Society wants to hear your story—and the story of Katy as you see it.
The organization, founded with a mission to preserve and promote the historical and cultural heritage of Katy and its surrounding areas, encourages applicants to dig deep into local history. Essays not only serve as a way to apply for funding but also become part of the society’s broader goal to document and celebrate Katy’s unique identity.
“Your story could help preserve our past while building your future,” the organization shared in a statement promoting the scholarship. “Let’s honor the past by investing in our future—spread the word and apply today.”
