A Legacy of Giving: The George Foundation’s Commitment to Fort Bend County
The George Foundation’s deep-rooted history is intertwined with the development and growth of Fort Bend Countyitself. Founded in 1945 by Albert and Mamie George, the foundation was born out of a desire to give back to the community that shaped their lives. As one of the area’s most influential families, the Georges amassed wealth through agriculture, cattle ranching, and oil discovery on The George Ranch, a 20,000-acre estate dating back to Stephen F. Austin’s “Old 300” settlers.
With no direct heirs, Albert and Mamie George made the historic decision to dedicate their estate to supporting education, philanthropy, and community development. The George Foundation has since grown into one of the most impactful charitable organizations in Texas, awarding nearly $270 million in grants and scholarships to support local nonprofits, students, and community initiatives.
