Copeland Elementary Student Wins National Pageant Recognition
Copeland Elementary School fourth grade student Laila Edwards is wrapping up her year as “Miss Elementary America 4th Grade,” which she won at the Miss Elementary America Pageant last summer.
The pageant was created in 2019 as a division of the Miss High School America Pageant Organization. The purpose of the program is to introduce girls who have an interest in community service to future pageants. Participants build confidence, gain friendships from all over the country and compete on a large national stage.
For her title, Edwards won a $5,000 cash prize along with a Nashville trip and a MMG Modeling contract.
“We are so proud of Laila representing Copeland this year as Miss Elementary America 4th grade,” said Stefanie Berger, Copeland principal. “She is a positive influence on everyone she meets. She is kind, compassionate and a joy to be around. She exemplifies what it means to be a Copeland Colt.”
A member of the Copeland Principal’s Advisory Committee and the A+ Honor Roll, Edwards is also a student representative for the anti-bullying campaign, BRAVE (Building Respect and Values for Everyone).
She is also a varsity head cheerleader with the Cy-Fair Sports Association, a member of the Club Cheer Elite Team at Cheer Factory Cypress and the United Cheer national championship team.
She plans to pursue a career in education.
“My ambition is to become a teacher and educate students just like my amazing teachers do,” Edwards said. “They have made each year so much fun and rewarding. I want to do for kids what they have done for me.”
