CFISD Police Officer Receives Leadership Award from National Organization

July 10 2023

Lt. Shane Wallace, CFISD police officer, was named the 2023 Chief Nick Derzis Safe School Leadership Award recipient from the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO). He was honored on June 30 during the organization’s National School Safety Conference in Indianapolis but was unable to attend.

The leadership awards are presented and awarded to school resource officers that are willing to support and further develop the partnership with students and school staff, and exemplify leadership, innovation, dedication and proactive measures to enhance the safety of the school community.

The Chief Nick Derzis Safe School Leadership Award is named after the chief of police in Hoover, Alabama who currently serves on the NASRO staff as Chief’s/Sheriff’s Representative.

“To be recognized nationally and have the opportunity to represent CFISD in Indianapolis is such an honor,” Wallace said. “This is an award for the entire district and it goes to show how committed the district is when it comes to the safety of our students, our schools and those who attend our events. I want other districts and other police departments to look at us as the standard in school safety. Coming to CFISD 11 years ago was the best thing I could have done for my career. It's a district where the leadership is supportive and the community is supportive. CFISD is a destination district and in so many ways.”

Tip submissions can be reported to campus and district administration and police communications 24 hours a day. Depending on the event, an officer will be summoned immediately.
