CFISD Offers Free Spring Parenting Classes to Help Families Build Positive Behaviors at Home
Raising kids is rewarding—but it’s not always easy. That’s why Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is once again offering families extra support through its spring “Building Positive Behaviors” parenting course, hosted by the district’s award-winning Department of Psychological Services.
This free, two-part course is designed especially for parents and guardians of children ages 3 to 11 and will be held at the Berry Center (located at 8877 Barker Cypress Rd, Cypress, TX 77433) on February 24 and March 3, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. each evening.
The course helps families tackle some of the most common parenting challenges—tantrums, defiance, sibling conflicts, and emotional outbursts—by teaching step-by-step strategies that build up healthy, positive behaviors at home.
And the best part? CFISD provides free on-site childcare for children ages 3 (must be toilet-trained) through 8th grade, snacks and water for both parents and kids, and a welcoming environment where no one feels judged.
What to Expect
Each session builds on the other—so it’s recommended to attend both. The course was designed by licensed school psychologists to be practical, encouraging, and easy to apply at home. Whether your child struggles with transitions, big emotions, or general discipline, this course offers tools and ideas to help.
If you’ve ever found yourself asking “Why won’t my child listen?” or “How do I stop this behavior without yelling?”—this is the course for you.

A Team That Cares
This program is just one of many services offered by CFISD’s highly respected Department of Psychological Services. Their team includes 37 licensed professionals—31 of whom hold doctoral degrees—serving all 118,000+ students across the district, including those right here in Westgate.
In fact, CFISD’s psychology team has been recognized multiple times by both state and national organizations for excellence in school-based mental health services. Their work spans crisis intervention, suicide prevention, autism evaluations, individual and group counseling, and direct family support.
Many families in Westgate first connect with the department through a school counselor or teacher. Others are referred as part of a child’s special education or behavioral support plan. Regardless of how you find them, one thing is clear: their mission is to help students thrive by strengthening the families and educators who support them.
Empowering Parents, One Conversation at a Time
Whether your child is strong-willed, shy, struggling, or somewhere in between—there’s no handbook for parenting, but there is help. CFISD wants parents in Westgate to know they aren’t alone. By offering free classes like “Building Positive Behaviors,” the district hopes to not only support parents but to build stronger home-school connections.
After all, when families in Westgate feel supported, kids do better—academically, socially, and emotionally.
If you’re a parent or guardian in the Cypress-Fairbanks community, consider carving out a couple evenings this spring to attend. You’ll walk away with real strategies and feel a little more confident navigating the daily ups and downs of raising children.
