CFISD Names New Chief School Leadership Officer
Christina Cole, assistant superintendent of elementary school leadership, was named CFISD’s new chief school leadership officer on April 21. Cole replaces Roy Garcia, who announced his retirement effective in June.
Cole’s career began with two years as a bilingual teacher in Spring Branch ISD. She arrived in CFISD in 1997 as a bilingual teacher and project facilitator at Frazier Elementary School, serving four years before being promoted to assistant principal at Walker Elementary School (2001-2003) and later Metcalf Elementary School (2003-2005).
In 2005, Cole was named the principal at Holmsley Elementary School, serving more than 1,200 students and 100 staff members. At Holmsley, she helped increase state assessment scores in math, reading, writing and science; implemented an effective instructional model, The Model Classrooms Project; and restructured the special education to be an inclusive model. She guided Holmsley to an Exemplary accountability rating for three consecutive years (2009-2011) and was selected as Region 4 Elementary Principal of the Year in 2010.
in 2011, she transitioned to human resources director, in which role she supervised teacher recruitment and hiring for the district while overseeing the student teacher placement and retention program. She served in this role for seven years before being promoted to her current role as assistant superintendent for school leadership in 2018. In this role, she supervises and evaluates 28 elementary school principals while recruiting, interviewing and contributing to the selection of elementary principals.
Cole received her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston and her Master of Education in Education Administration from Prairie View A&M University. She is a product of CFISD, having graduated from Jersey Village High School.
“I am incredibly honored to serve in this new role in the district where I grew up and raised my family. CFISD’s quality education was the foundation for an amazing educational career in a district that I love,” Cole said. “CFISD has a tradition of excellence because of its employees’ strong commitment and consistent focus on student achievement. I feel incredibly blessed to support our talented principals, nurses, counselors, professional developers, support staff and district leaders. I look forward to this new opportunity.”
