West Houston / Cypress  /  West Houston / Cypress
March 16 2026

Residents in Towne Lake, Stone Gate, Riata Ranch, and surrounding Cypress neighborhoods will soon have a new nearby destination for affordable household essentials. Construction plans show a new Dollar Tree store coming to Barker Commons at 11340 Barker Cypress Road in Cypress.

According to official permit filings, the project involves the buildout and renovation of an 8,053-square-foot retail space to create a new Dollar Tree location within the Barker Commons shopping center, which is currently occupied by Tune Up - The Manly Salon and Ihealing Thai Massage and Cupping. Work is scheduled to begin May 4, 2026, with completion anticipated by July 9, 2026. The estimated cost of the project is $339,112.

Once completed, the store will add another convenient retail option along the Barker Cypress Road corridor, a growing commercial area that serves thousands of households across northwest Harris County.

Convenient Shopping for Nearby Cypress Neighborhoods

The planned Dollar Tree location sits in a highly traveled part of Cypress, making it easily accessible for residents in nearby communities including Towne Lake, Stone Gate, Riata Ranch, and surrounding subdivisions along Barker Cypress Road, Cypress North Houston and Tuckerton Road.

For families and homeowners in these neighborhoods, the addition of a discount retailer nearby means easier access to everyday necessities without needing to travel farther along Highway 290 or into larger commercial districts.

Dollar Tree stores are commonly used for quick shopping trips—whether picking up party supplies, classroom materials, craft supplies, snacks, or seasonal decorations—making them a frequent stop for many local households.

A Longtime Discount Retailer With National Reach

Dollar Tree has become one of the most recognizable names in American discount retail. The company traces its origins to 1953, when founder K.R. Perry opened a Ben Franklin variety store in Virginia. Over time, the business evolved into the Dollar Tree brand that shoppers recognize today.

Headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia, Dollar Tree now operates more than 16,000 stores across the United States and Canada under the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar brands. The company expanded significantly after acquiring Family Dollar in 2015, making it one of the largest discount retail chains in North America.

Dollar Tree stores are known for offering affordable everyday products across a wide range of categories, including:

  • Household cleaning supplies
  • Food and snacks
  • Party supplies and decorations
  • Greeting cards and gift wrap
  • School and office supplies
  • Health and beauty items
  • Craft supplies and seasonal décor

For many shoppers, the appeal is the convenience of finding practical, everyday items at low prices—whether someone is stocking up on household basics, preparing for a holiday, or picking up supplies for a classroom or community event.

Why Dollar Tree Stores Remain Popular With Local Families

In communities like Cypress, Dollar Tree locations often become neighborhood staples because they provide quick, low-cost solutions for everyday needs.

Teachers frequently shop the stores for classroom supplies, while parents stop in for birthday decorations or school project materials. Community groups, churches, and nonprofit organizations also rely on Dollar Tree stores to purchase supplies for events and outreach programs.

The brand’s rotating seasonal displays—ranging from holiday decorations to back-to-school supplies—also create a shopping experience where customers can often discover new items each visit.

Cypress Growth Continues to Attract Retail Investment

Northwest Harris County has experienced significant residential growth over the past decade, particularly in communities surrounding Towne Lake and the Barker Cypress corridor. As new homes, schools, and community amenities continue to develop, retail centers are adapting to meet the needs of a growing population.

Projects like the Barker Commons Dollar Tree buildout reflect that trend—bringing familiar national retailers into neighborhood shopping centers where residents can access everyday essentials close to home.

With thousands of households located within just a few miles of Barker Commons, the new store is expected to serve a steady stream of customers from nearby subdivisions.

What Happens Next

Construction is expected to begin May 4, 2026, with work projected to wrap up by July 9, 2026, if the project stays on schedule. Following completion, the store will undergo interior setup and product stocking ahead of opening.

For Cypress residents near Stone Gate, Towne Lake, and Riata Ranch, the addition will bring another convenient option for quick shopping trips along Barker Cypress Road.
