CFISD Football Standouts, Coach Honored as TD Club Award Finalists

December 19 2022

Bridgeland High School senior Reid Mikeska and Cypress Ranch High School senior Ashton Porter joined Cy-Fair High School head football coach Jeff Miller in being honored as Touchdown Club of Houston award finalists. They joined fellow honorees in being recognized Dec. 14 at a ceremony at the Bayou City Event Center.

The Touchdown Club’s 43rd annual UIL High School Awards Dinner, presented by Memorial Hermann Health System and Gallery Furniture, showcased the finalists for the organization’s awards.

Mikeska, a tight end for the Bears, was among 10 who were up for Offensive Player of the Year. He helped lead the team to a District 16-6A co-championship and fourth consecutive playoff appearance. Mikeska is verbally committed to the University of Miami.

Porter, a defensive end for the Mustangs, was a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year. He helped Cypress Ranch earn a share of the 16-6A championship. Porter is scheduled to participate in the Under Armour All-American Football Game on Jan. 3

Miller led the Cy-Fair Bobcats to their second district championship in his three seasons. The team won 10 consecutive games and reached the area round of the Class 6A Division I playoffs.

Award winners were Katy High School’s Seth Davis (Offensive Player of the Year), Galena Park North Shore’s Elijah Fields (Defensive Player of the Year) and Spring Westfield High School’s Matt Meekins (Coach of the Year).

The most recent CFISD representative to win a UIL high school award from the Touchdown Club is former Bridgeland High School quarterback Conner Weigman, who was named the 2021 Offensive Player of the Year. He followed a pair of consecutive Defensive Player of the Year honorees. Former Bridgeland defensive back Bryce McMorris earned the award for the 2020 season, following former Cypress Creek High School standout linebacker and 2019 winner Josh White
