Thoughts to Consider Before Running for the NCCIA Board of Directors

Serving on the Nottingham Country CIA Board of Directors is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our neighborhood that requires time, dedication, and teamwork. Here are some key points to consider before deciding to run:

Volunteer Role
  • All Board positions are volunteer roles — there is no paid service.
  • Board members may occasionally have out-of-pocket expenses (such as driving within the neighborhood, printing at home, and meeting attendance at a vendor location). These are generally not reimbursed by the HOA.
Time Commitment
  • Board meetings are held monthly on the second Thursday of each month, and the annual meeting takes place on the first Tuesday of December each year.
    • Attendance is essential to fulfill your responsibilities.
    • Meetings may last up to three hours, including both executive and homeowner sessions.
  • Between meetings, expect to spend 3–10 hours per week on Board work.
    • Time commitments vary depending on your role, project involvement, and HOA activity level.
    • Work may include team collaboration, independent research, or virtual meetings.
Technical Readiness

To serve effectively, Board members should be comfortable working in a digital environment:

  • Navigate the management company’s online database.
  • Participate in (and occasionally lead) Zoom or Teams meetings.
  • Work with Excel, Word, and PDF documents.
  • Use personal technology (laptop, desktop, or tablet)- the HOA does not provide electronic equipment.
Leadership & Collaboration

Experience in leading or facilitating groups is helpful for building consensus and guiding productive discussions.

Active participation in Board deliberations — sharing ideas, listening to others, and finding balanced solutions.

Even when a Board decision differs from your personal view, professionalism means supporting the collective decision once made.

Confidentiality

Board members have access to sensitive information, including homeowner data, legal matters, and constable reports.

This information must remain strictly confidential — not to be shared with family, friends, or neighbors.

2026 and Beyond – A Time of Growth and Change

The coming years will bring major initiatives shaping the future of Nottingham Country, including:

  • Updating deed restrictions — fees, modernization (e.g., short-term rentals), removing outdated language, etc.
  • Revising Architectural Control Guidelines to meet current standards.
  • Reviewing By-Laws for potential updates.
  • Improving the Architectural Review process for homeowners.
  • Clarifying deed restriction violation letters for better communication.
  • Enhancing community participation in events and programs.
  • Expanding “Did You Know…” HOA communications into online FAQs.
  • Developing plans for alleyway repairs, funding strategies, and long-term maintenance.
  • Reevaluating cul-de-sac and esplanade landscaping to reduce costs and water use.

These projects require engaged, collaborative Board members willing to contribute time and energy beyond monthly meetings.

Commitment to the Community

Being elected to the NCCIA Board is both an honor and a responsibility. Homeowners place their trust in you to make decisions that benefit the entire neighborhood.

This role deserves to be a priority in your personal schedule and a source of community pride.

The current board is excited to welcome new board members who want to work together to keep Nottingham Country a community we’re proud to call home.
