Stanley Bermudez’s 'Alternations' Exhibition Launches LSC-CyFair’s Art Season Aug. 28

August 05 2025

Lone Star College-CyFair is kicking off its 2025-26 art season with Alternations, a dynamic solo exhibition by Venezuelan-born artist Stanley Bermudez. On display Aug. 28 through Sept. 25 at the college’s Bosque Gallery, the exhibition offers visitors a vibrant exploration of culture, color, and dimension.

A Celebration of Color and Perspective

Bermudez, who grew up in Maracaibo, Venezuela, credits his hometown’s rich culture and artistry for shaping his creative vision. “One striking characteristic of my paintings is the use of vibrant colors which I believe comes from growing up in Maracaibo and being exposed to the colors of the city, to Venezuelan folk art, to the work of the Guajiro Indians and their tapestries,” he said.

Art has been part of Bermudez’s life since childhood. With a mother who was an artist and sisters who pursued graphic design, he recalls art as “a form of play and entertainment and still is today.” That early love evolved into a professional career spanning two decades in higher education—including time as an adjunct faculty member at LSC-CyFair—and now a pursuit of a Ph.D. in Visual Arts.

Why Alternations Matters

The Alternations exhibition draws from multiple series of Bermudez’s work inspired by family connections, Latino heritage, travel experiences in China, and cultural icons from history and pop culture. Each piece explores the interplay of color and three-dimensionality, offering different perspectives while celebrating individuality and heritage.

Visitors are encouraged to attend the opening reception at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 and an intimate Library Art Talk with Bermudez at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 for deeper insight into his artistic journey.

A Gallery with a Community Mission

The Bosque Gallery, located in LSC-CyFair’s Center for the Arts, is more than just an exhibition space—it serves as a cultural hub for the Northwest Houston community. Known for featuring both emerging and established artists, the gallery provides hands-on opportunities for students and a vibrant connection point for art lovers across the region. Through its rotating exhibitions, artist talks, and student showcases, the Bosque Gallery continues to enrich the community’s cultural landscape while supporting education and creative growth.
