Katy Senior Caregiver Support Group Returns to Offer Vital Resources for Local Caregivers
Caring for a senior loved one can be both rewarding and challenging, and many caregivers often feel overwhelmed and alone in their journey. Recognizing this need, the Katy Senior Caregiver Support Group is making a much-anticipated return to provide a supportive space for those tending to elderly family members, friends, or patients. Hosted at the City of Katy Fussell Senior Center, the group will resume meetings on Monday, March 17, 2025, and continue to gather every third Monday of the month from 12:00 to 1:00 PM.
The support group is designed to be a no-pressure environment where caregivers can connect, share experiences, and receive guidance from local senior service providers—without the concern of sales pitches. Each meeting will feature a facilitator who organizes a guest speaker, guides discussions, and ensures a welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, participating service providers will offer a light lunch and provide engagement activities for seniors requiring supervision while their caregivers attend the session.
The Need for Caregiver Support in Katy
Providing care for an aging loved one can take a significant toll on mental, emotional, and physical well-being. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), research shows that caregiver support programs greatly benefit those in caregiving roles by reducing stress, improving coping skills, and enhancing overall well-being. Studies indicate that caregivers who participate in support groups experience lower levels of depression, improved problem-solving abilities, and a greater sense of community.

Amanda Di Dio, Director of Social Services at the City of Katy Fussell Senior Center, emphasized the importance of having a dedicated space where caregivers can seek guidance and emotional support. “The Katy Senior Caregiver Support Group was created to offer caregivers a welcoming and understanding place to share their challenges and receive encouragement. Even though attendance was small in the past, the impact on those who participated was profound,” she explained.
How Locals Can Help Support the Returning Initiative
The success of the support group depends on community involvement. Local organizations and service providers are encouraged to contribute by signing up to facilitate meetings, provide lunch, or assist with senior engagement. Facilitators are responsible for securing a speaker to lead discussions, ensuring that caregivers receive valuable insights and advice from experienced professionals.
Beyond volunteering, residents can help by spreading the word. The Fussell Senior Center is calling on the community to share information about the support group with caregivers who may benefit from attending. “This group is open to all caregivers, whether they are family members, friends, or professionals,” Di Dio added. “It doesn’t matter if their senior loved one lives at home, in a facility, or even in another city—everyone is welcome to join and connect with others facing similar experiences.”
