Katy ISD Celebrates Creative Excellence at 2025 Teacher Art Show
Creativity took center stage this fall as Katy ISD educators transformed the walls of the District’s 2025 Teacher Art Show into a vibrant celebration of imagination, skill, and personal expression. The exhibit, open to staff and community members, featured a compelling collection of paintings, sculptures, mixed media, and drawings—all created by the talented hands of Katy ISD teachers.
Art lovers and supporters were invited to take on the role of curators, casting votes for their favorite pieces by scanning QR codes displayed alongside each entry. The process gave a voice to the community, allowing visitors to connect directly with the works that moved them.
Top Honors Awarded to Three Standout Educators
The coveted Best of Show award went to Natavia Gamble of Cardiff Junior High School, whose thought-provoking piece, “State of Catastrophe,” drew praise for its emotional depth and visual storytelling.

Winning the hearts of attendees, Jason Maggitti of Rylander Elementary took home the People’s Choice award for his inspiring work “Onward and Upward,” which resonated strongly with visitors for its immersive and hopeful tone.
Meanwhile, the Curator’s Choice recognition was presented to Erin Mitchell of Tompkins High School for her striking sculpture titled “Ocean Dwelling.” Her piece was selected for its powerful use of form and texture, capturing the attention of curators with its artistic complexity.
A Canvas of Passion Beyond the Classroom
For many attendees, the exhibit offered a rare glimpse into the inner worlds of the educators who daily spark creativity in Katy’s classrooms. “The Teacher Art Show is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the artistic passions of our educators beyond the classroom,” said Damon Archer, Executive Director of Fine Arts for Katy ISD. “Their creativity inspires students and colleagues throughout the District.”

The annual event, now a beloved tradition, also reflects Katy ISD’s continued investment in cultivating the arts as a cornerstone of its educational mission. With support from the Fine Arts Department, teachers are encouraged not only to teach art but to live it.
Laura Simoneaux, Assistant Director of Fine Arts who oversees the visual art discipline, expressed gratitude to all participating educators: “We appreciate every teacher who contributed their time, talent, and enthusiasm to make this year’s exhibition a success.”
From bold brushstrokes to textured sculptures, the show was a powerful reminder that Katy ISD’s educators are artists in every sense—channeling their creativity both in the classroom and through their personal artwork.
