Westpark Tollway Extension Opens Early in Fulshear, Bringing Congestion Relief to FM 359/FM 1463
For drivers navigating FM 359 and FM 1463 in Fulshear, the daily wait at the traffic light has become a familiar frustration. That changes this weekend.
Weather permitting, the first two-mile segment of the Westpark Tollway Extension will open Saturday, February 28, around noon — months ahead of schedule. The early opening gives westbound drivers the ability to exit just past FM 1463 and allows eastbound drivers to enter just west of FM 1463, easing pressure on one of Fort Bend County’s busiest intersections.
For residents in Fulshear, Cross Creek Ranch, Tamarron, Fulbrook, Weston Lakes and surrounding communities, the impact is immediate: shorter commute times, improved traffic flow and safer mobility through a rapidly growing corridor.
Early Opening Ahead of November 2026 Contract Deadline
Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Commissioner Vincent Morales confirmed the milestone this week.
“Weather permitting, the opening of the first 2-mile segment of the Westpark Tollway Extension project will happen on Saturday, February 28, around noon,” Morales stated.
The early delivery is significant. Under the original contract timeline, this portion of the project was not scheduled for completion until November 3, 2026. Delivering it nearly nine months ahead of that date represents a major acceleration effort by the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority, Harper Brothers Construction and project engineers BGE, Inc.
Morales emphasized the immediate benefit for commuters: “This will allow toll road patrons to avoid the light at FM359/FM1463, thereby providing congestion relief to those that must traverse that intersection.”

What the Westpark Tollway Extension Includes
The full Westpark Tollway Extension project is a nearly $72 million investment managed by the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority. Construction began in August 2025.
Key project details include:
- A four-mile extension west along FM 1093
- Two lanes in each direction
- No additional right-of-way required
- Full buildout extending to Charger Way in Fulshear
- Expected full completion in August 2026
When completed, the extension will create improved regional connectivity and strengthen mobility for western Fort Bend County — one of the fastest-growing areas in Texas.
Designed for a Booming Fulshear Population
he need for expanded infrastructure has been driven by extraordinary population growth. Fulshear’s population has surged from just 1,134 residents in 2010 to more than 42,000 in 2023 — one of the fastest growth rates in the Houston metropolitan area.
With new master-planned communities, retail development and business expansion continuing along the FM 1093 corridor, transportation infrastructure has struggled to keep pace. The Westpark Tollway Extension is intended to relieve congestion, improve emergency response times and support long-term economic development.
Future plans could potentially extend the tollway even farther west toward Simonton and Wallis, further increasing regional access.
Contractor Recognized for Accelerated Delivery
Morales credited the project team for delivering the segment ahead of schedule.
“This opening is well ahead of the contractual completion date of November 3, 2026. Many thanks to the contractor, Harper Brothers and their subs, who have worked cooperatively to expedite this portion of the project for the benefit of Fort Bend County residents.”
The Fulshear Police Department also acknowledged Harper Bros. Construction and BGE, Inc. for maintaining strong communication throughout construction, including providing timely updates on closures and traffic pattern changes that helped keep residents informed.

Safety Reminder as Tollway Opens
As drivers begin using the newly opened segment, local officials are reminding residents that the roadway is a toll facility designed for improved mobility — not increased speed.
Law enforcement will continue monitoring traffic conditions, and motorists are encouraged to follow posted speed limits as traffic patterns adjust.
What Happens Next?
The remaining two-mile portion of the extension is expected to continue progressing toward the full four-mile opening projected for August 2026. As construction advances toward Charger Way, residents can expect periodic updates from Fort Bend County and local agencies regarding lane shifts and traffic adjustments.
For homeowners, commuters and businesses in Fulshear and western Fort Bend County, Saturday’s opening represents more than a ribbon-cutting — it marks a tangible shift in how the community moves.
With traffic congestion a top concern for growing suburban communities across Texas, the early opening of the Westpark Tollway Extension signals forward momentum in infrastructure planning and regional mobility.
