Katy Cares Introduces Essential Parenting Program to Empower Single-Parent Families
Katy Cares, a nonprofit organization deeply embedded within the Katy community, has announced the launch of a new extension program, Essential Parenting. Born out of a shared commitment to support single-parent families in crisis, Katy Cares aims to provide structured, comprehensive solutions to address the urgent needs of such families.
Formed in 2016 by a dedicated team of business and professional leaders, Katy Cares recognized a growing social crisis primarily affecting single mothers and their children. These families, particularly within the Katy ISD area, are often left struggling with financial and emotional hardships following traumatic experiences such as domestic violence, separation, divorce, or natural disasters.
Driven to address these issues, Katy Cares developed the Non-Residential Trauma Informed Therapeutic Program (TITP). Carefully designed to foster emotional resilience, social adequacy, and financial independence among impacted families, this program includes various interventions like counseling, therapy, mentoring, and coaching held daily or weekly, in group or individual settings.
Katy Cares has expanded its presence beyond the greater Katy area since 2020, acknowledging that the struggles faced by single-parent families are prevalent in neighboring communities as well. To support these families, the organization offers a range of programs, including the Ready, Set, Go! Parenting Program, Grow Through Life: Skills Upgrade for Teens, and Safari Adventure for elementary school kids.
To support the need for ongoing need for support and enrichment, Katy Cares has introduced Essential Parenting, a uniquely designed program that further extends support to families who have completed an initial emotional healing journey within a faith-based community or church. The extension program re-visits crucial parenting basics and addresses challenges that may arise during and after a divorce.
Essential Parenting works to deepen the understanding of critical parenting topics such as self-care practices, effective communication, purposeful connections, implementing value-based discipline, and understanding different parenting styles. This 7-week program, enriched by intimate small group sessions, seeks to foster an environment of mutual support and learning, equipping parents with practical tools to navigate the complex terrain of parenting. Participants will meet once per week from June 10 through July 22, with various host locations across the Katy community like Katy First United Methodist Church, Second Baptist Church on FM 1463, The Waters Church, and others.
Enrollment for this program is free of charge, with dinner and childcare provided. Registration is required in advance. To learn more about Katy Cares and to enroll in the Essential Parenting program, visit katycares.org/registration-form.
