On April 21, 2025, city and county officials gathered to mark the commencement of the Huggins Drive mobility project, a $6.5 million initiative designed to enhance traffic flow and safety in one of Fulshear's busiest corridors. The project will widen and extend Huggins Drive from Fulshear Katy Road to FM 359, introducing a center turn lane, realigning key intersections, and adding pedestrian infrastructure.
Project Scope and Objectives
The Huggins Drive project encompasses several key improvements:
- Road Widening: Addition of a center turn lane to facilitate smoother traffic movement.
- Intersection Realignment: Reconfiguration of Houston Street and Dixon Road intersections for improved connectivity.
- Extension to FM 359: Providing a direct route to FM 359 to reduce cut-through traffic in residential neighborhoods.
- Pedestrian Infrastructure: Installation of sidewalks between FM 359 and Fulshear Katy Road to enhance pedestrian safety.
This project is a collaborative effort between the City of Fulshear and Fort Bend County, funded through the 2013 Fort Bend County Mobility Bond, which allocated $184.9 million for 62 transportation projects across the county.
