Character.Org Recognizes Creekside Park Junior High's Cougars 4 Kindness
Creekside Park Junior High’s service-based organization, Cougars 4 Kindness, was recently recognized as a Promising Practice by Character.org, a national advocate and leader for character in schools and communities.
Cougars 4 Kindness started just a year and a half ago with a group of students, a counselor and a few teachers who wanted to spread kindness and positivity in the school, community and beyond. C4K is the first student based club at CPJH to promote kindness and positivity as a student based club. Whether it is the Adopt-a-Path project, Kids for Peace through Great Kindness Challenge, Juice Box Challenge through Kids Meals, or campus-based projects, specifically working with counselors on Red Ribbon Week, Start with Hello Week, Anti-Bullying Week, and Random Acts of Kindness week. CPJHS has led the way in character building initiatives.
Cougars 4 Kindness was recognized as a Promising Practice and described as a unique, effective, and replicable initiative that inspires “goodness in action” and contributes to the field of character development.
CPJHS and Cougars 4 Kindness intentionally align with Tomball ISD’s new secondary-level character education program, CAREER (Character, Accountability, Responsibility, Excellence, Effort, Respect).
Through CAREER, Tomball ISD ensures that its students not only excel academically but also develop the essential skills and character traits necessary for their future CAREER. TISD is committed to nurturing well-rounded individuals who will make a positive impact in their professions and communities, and through Cougars 4 Kindness, CPJHS is excelling in that effort.
The Tomball ISD CAREER framework is 100% aligned to the TEA’s Positive Character Trait Standards and is enhanced by the 11 principles identified by Character.org. The 11 principles of Character.org will provide structure to the CAREER framework with assessment tools and Tomball ISD developed practices that are associated with each principle.
Because of its recognition by Character.org, CPJHS will be among the 177 Promising Practices in schools and communities, honored at its 30th Anniversary National Forum LIVE in Washington D.C., held November 6-7.
