Walk to End Alzheimer's in Katy Set for September 30
On Saturday, September 30, the Katy community will once again lace up for the annual Walk to End Alzheimers.
The Walk will take place at LaCenterra in Cinco Ranch, located at 23501 Cinco Ranch Boulevard in Katy. Kicking off at 8:00 AM, an opening ceremony will take place at 8:45 AM followed by the start of the Walk at 9:00 AM. The route covers a total of two miles.
This year's campaign is aiming to raise $155,000 to further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. The Alzheimer's Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, and all donations made to The Alzheimer's Association are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
Those interested in walking, including children, are asked to register online prior to the event. All participants will be required to sign a standard waiver through their official registration. There is no registration fee for the Walk. However, participants are asked to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer's.
If you have already registered and have questions about fundraising, you are invited to the Katy Walk's virtual crash-course workshop on August 23 where you can learn how to be successful in your fundraising. The online workshop will begin at 12:00 PM and lasts for one hour. Register in advance here.
Each registered participant will receive a Promise Garden flower. Registrants are given the opportunity to choose the color that best represents their connection to the disease with blue representing someone living with Alzheimer's or another dementia, purple for those who have lost a someone to the disease, yellow for someone who is currently supporting or caring for a person living with Alzheimer's, and orange for those who support the cause and the Association's vision of a world without Alzheimer's and all other dementia.
In addition to Walk participants, volunteers are also needed to help with set-up, clean-up, registration, water stops, Promise Garden and much more. All interested volunteers should visit the volunteer page for more information about event day roles and responsibilities.
