Track and Field Athletes Qualify for 2023 Regional Competition

CFISD track and field teams from all 12 high schools will send entries to their respective regional meets, to be held April 28-29. In total, 106 athletes and relay teams qualified for regional competition after placing in the top four of their respective events at the District 15/16-6A area meet at Klein Memorial Stadium and District 17/18-6A area meet at Stratford High School. 

The Region II-6A meet will be held at Waco Midway High School and the Region III-6A meet will be held at Humble ISD’s Turner Stadium. 

Cypress Creek High School boys and girls and the Langham Creek High boys all placed second in their respective meets to finished tied as the highest among CFISD team in the two meets. 

Langham Creek High School senior Jaquaize Pettawayhelped lead the Lobos to a second-place finish at the District 15/16-6A area meet and qualified for the Region III-6A meet in four events. He’ll compete in the long jump, 100-meter dash, 4x200-meter relay and 200-meter dash. 
 

In the District 15/16-6A area meet, the Langham Creek boys recorded 92 points, just finishing behind Klein Forest (95 points). Bridgeland (51), Cypress Park (50) and Cypress Woods (37) high schools all finished among the top 10. 

On the girls’ side, Cypress Ranch High School placed third with 87 points. Bridgeland (69), Cypress Woods (27), Cypress Park (25) and Langham Creek (16) high schools were top-10 finishers. 

In the District 17/18-6A area meet, the Cypress Creek boys recorded 111 points, just finishing behind Houston Lamar (113). Cy-Fair (53) and Cypress Ridge (36) placed fifth and eighth, respectively. 

Cypress Creek High School junior Juan Lowe qualified for the Region III-6A track meet after placing third in the 400-meter dash at the District 17/18-6A area meet. The Cougars placed second as a team at the area meet and qualified nine athletes in 10 events and all three relays to regional competition. 
 

On the girls’ side, Cypress Creek tallied 75 points to finished second behind Spring Branch ISD’s Memorial High School (128). Cy-Fair (63), Jersey Village (54) and Cypress Ridge (34) all placed among the top 10. 

Cypress Ranch High School senior Camryn Clark anchors the Mustangs’ 4x200-meter relay, which placed third at the District 15/16-6A area meet and qualified for the Region II-6A meet. Clark also qualified for regional competition in the triple jump. 
 
The following girls qualified for the Region II-6A meet: 
  • Bridgeland’s 4x100-meter relay team (42.13) and 4x200-meter relay (1:40.80); 
  • Bridgeland’s Lillian Harden in the 100-meter hurdles (14.63) and 300-meter hurdles (45.62); 
  • Bridgeland’s Jewels Westra in the 100-meter hurdles (15.04) and pole vault (11-0); 
  • Bridgeland’s Olivia Ruiz in the 300-meter hurdles (43.88); 
  • Bridgeland’s Lily Fawcett in the 1,600-meter run (5:02.55); 
  • Cypress Park’s Sydnee Burr in the 200-meter dash (24.61), long jump (19-5.5) and triple jump (38-3.25); 
  • Cypress Ranch’s 4x100-meter relay (46.49), 4x200-meter relay (1:40.37) and 4x400-meter relay (3:54.81); 
  • Cypress Ranch’s Haley Baalson in the discus (115-7); 
  • Cypress Ranch’s Emma Goeke in the 800-meter run (2:19.48) 
  • Cypress Ranch’s Celeste Robinson in the 100-meter dash (11.50); 
  • Cypress Ranch’s Hailey Ayers in the 100-meter dash (11.74); 
  • Cypress Ranch’s Maya Wofford in the 400-meter dash (57.06); 
  • Cypress Ranch’s Camryn Clark in the triple jump (38-1); 
  • Cypress Woods’ Alyssa Jolly in the 400-meter dash (57.76); 
  • Cypress Woods’ Emma Opalacz in the pole vault (12-6); 
  • Langham Creek’s Jovonah Rhodes in the 400-meter dash (58.04); and 
  • Langham Creek’s Alaya Gradney in the 200-meter dash (23.97). 
Cypress Woods High School senior Emma Opalacz won the pole vault at both the District 16-6A meet and District 15/16-6A meet, and is among qualifiers from all 12 CFISD high school for regional competition. She’ll advance to the Region II-6A meet, set for April 28-29 at Waco Midway High School. 
 
The following boys qualified for the Region II-6A meet: 
  • Bridgeland’s Benjamin Montgomery in the 3,200-meter run (9:16.67) and 1,600-meter run (4:16.97);

  • Cypress Falls’ Davonne Fossie in the 110-meter hurdles (14.25); 
  • Cypress Lakes’ Julius Malone in the high jump (6-4); 
  • Cypress Lakes’ 4x400-meter relay (42.01);

  • Jersey Village’s Beau Lewis in the 300-meter hurdles (41.76).
