Residents across Cypress and northwest Harris County will have a chance to experience professional volleyball close to home this week as LOVB Houston takes the court at the Berry Center for two League One Volleyball (LOVB) matches.

The Houston-based professional team is scheduled to face LOVB Austin on Wednesday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m., followed by a matchup against LOVB Atlanta on Saturday, March 14 at 5:00 p.m. Both games will take place at the Berry Center, a major sports and entertainment venue located in Cypress that frequently hosts regional athletic events, concerts and community gatherings.

For volleyball fans in Cypress, Katy and the broader Houston area, the games offer a rare opportunity to watch elite-level volleyball competition locally while supporting a team representing the region on a national stage.

League One Volleyball Brings a New Era of Professional Volleyball

LOVB Houston competes in League One Volleyball (LOVB), a professional volleyball league founded in 2020 with the goal of building a unified pathway for the sport in the United States. The organization originally launched as the largest community of junior volleyball clubs in the country and has since expanded into a professional league designed to connect grassroots youth programs, collegiate competition and professional play.

The league’s professional division includes six teams in major volleyball markets, including Houston, Austin and Atlanta. LOVB Houston made history in January 2025 as Houston’s first professional volleyball team, debuting at the Fort Bend County Epicenter as part of the league’s inaugural season.

The league aims to strengthen the sport nationally while providing athletes a professional platform in the United States. As LOVB Pro President Rosie Spaulding previously said, “This is a huge step in the right direction. We have big dreams to make volleyball a major league sport, and today is an exciting milestone in that journey.”

Houston’s inclusion reflects the region’s strong volleyball culture, where thousands of athletes participate in club programs, school teams and regional tournaments across Greater Houston.

Houston Team Showcases Elite Volleyball Talent

The LOVB Houston roster features elite volleyball players from around the world, blending Olympic-level talent with experienced professional athletes and rising stars. During the team’s inaugural season, the roster included U.S. Olympic medalists Micha Hancock and Jordan Thompson, along with international athletes representing countries such as Italy, Brazil, Finland, Slovakia and Norway.

Italian volleyball standout Raphaela Folie previously shared her excitement about competing in the United States, saying, “I’m really excited to be a part of the team and to help grow the sport of volleyball in the U.S. I’ve played with many American players over the years, and now I get to play in front of U.S. fans. It’s a thrilling experience.”

Other international players have included Norwegian-born middle blocker Christina Bauer, who represented France in the Paris Olympics, and Finnish setter Kaisa Alanko, who has competed in top European leagues. Brazilian libero Key Alves, known both for her athletic career and her massive social media following, also joined the team after competing with Brazil’s U20 National Team.

By bringing together Olympic athletes, NCAA champions and international professionals, LOVB Houston represents the league’s broader mission to elevate volleyball in the United States while connecting fans to world-class competition in their own communities.

Berry Center Provides Local Stage for Professional Competition

Located at 8877 Barker Cypress Road in Cypress, the Berry Center serves as a regional hub for sports and entertainment in northwest Harris County. The complex includes a stadium, arena and conference facilities and regularly hosts high school championships, concerts and community events.

Hosting LOVB Houston home games at the Berry Center places professional volleyball within reach for families and sports fans throughout Cypress, Katy, Tomball and northwest Houston.

For many local athletes who grew up playing volleyball in club programs or school teams, seeing professional players compete in their own community adds another layer of inspiration.
