Tomball ISD Elementary Honor Choir Earns Spot at Prestigious 2026 Texas Music Educators Association Convention
Tomball ISD is celebrating a milestone achievement after its Elementary Honor Choir was selected as a Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Invited Ensemble for the 2026 TMEA Clinic/Convention in San Antonio — the highest honor an elementary choir can receive in the state of Texas.
The announcement, made recently by TMEA, places the Tomball ISD Elementary Honor Choir among a select group of school ensembles statewide recognized for exceptional musical excellence, artistry, and educational impact.
“We are incredibly proud of our Tomball ISD Elementary Honor Choir for being selected as a TMEA Invited Ensemble—an extraordinary honor and the highest recognition an elementary choir can receive in Texas,” said Paulette Torchia, Tomball ISD Director of Fine Arts. “This achievement is a celebration of our students’ talent, hard work, and passion, as well as the dedication of the amazing teachers who guide them.”
The TMEA Clinic/Convention is one of the largest music education events in the nation, drawing nearly 30,000 attendees each year. The February 2026 event will feature over 300 professional development clinics for music educators, more than 100 performances by student and professional ensembles, and an exhibit hall with 600+ companies and higher education institutions. Families and community members often travel to support their performers, making the convention both a professional and celebratory gathering.

Under the leadership of Director Rachel Hamann, music teacher at Creekview Elementary, the Tomball ISD Elementary Honor Choir is composed of talented students from all elementary and intermediate campuses across the district. The ensemble has become a proud ambassador for Tomball ISD, performing at community events such as the Lone Star College Fine Arts Festival, district concerts, and even the National Anthem at a Houston Astros game.
Their TMEA selection followed a highly competitive, blind audition process — a testament to the district’s strong investment in arts education.
“Elementary fine arts are not just the beginning of a student’s artistic journey—they are the foundation of a thriving district-wide program,” Torchia said. “The excellence we see at the secondary level is built on the skills, confidence, and creativity nurtured in these early years. This honor reminds us that when we invest in young artists, we are shaping the future of fine arts in Tomball ISD. Let’s take a moment to celebrate this milestone and the educators who make it possible.”
The choir will take the stage in February 2026 to perform before thousands of educators, administrators, and music professionals at the TMEA Convention. For Tomball, it’s more than just a performance — it’s a proud moment for the community, the students, and the teachers whose dedication made it possible.
