New H-E-B Grocery Store and Fuel Station Coming to Converse

February 05 2026

Big things are coming to Converse. If you’ve driven past 10137 IH-10 East lately, you likely noticed signs of construction—and for good reason. H-E-B, the beloved Texas grocery chain, is building a brand-new store and convenience center that’s set to bring fresh food, fuel, and added convenience to the fast-growing northeast Bexar County community.

The project actually involves two separate developments, and they’re moving forward on different timelines.

First Up: A New H-E-B Store for Converse

Back in February 2025, H-E-B officially filed plans for a full-size grocery store at the site. The new 125,434-square-foot store is expected to start construction in September 2025 and be completed by late November 2026. The estimated construction cost? A little over $21 million.

Behind the design is pb2 architecture + engineering, the firm responsible for creating the look and feel of many H-E-B stores across Texas. This new location is expected to offer everything locals have come to love—from fresh produce and meats to curbside pickup and pharmacy services.

For Converse, it’s a big deal. The community has seen rapid residential growth in recent years, and families have long hoped for a local H-E-B to match that pace.

Just Filed: Gas Station, Car Wash, and Convenience Store

While the store itself has been in the works for a while, a brand-new permit was just filed in February 2026 for the second part of the project: a C-store/FSCW, which stands for convenience store, fuel station, and car wash.

Construction on the 5,998-square-foot facility is scheduled to begin this month, with a target completion date of October 7, 2026. That portion of the project carries a $4 million price tag.

Together, the full grocery and fuel station site will give residents a true one-stop shop—whether they need to fill up the tank, grab a gallon of milk, or do their full weekly grocery haul.

What This Means for Converse

H-E-B’s presence goes beyond just food. The grocer is known for creating jobs, investing in communities, and building stores that serve as local hubs. Based right here in San Antonio, H-E-B operates over 455 stores across Texas and Mexico, employs more than 175,000 people, and is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year.

This new location marks another major investment in Bexar County. For families in Converse, it’s welcome news—less time on the road and more access to the essentials, all in one place.

As 2026 progresses, residents can expect to see the project steadily take shape. And if all stays on track, the new H-E-B and gas station could be open in time for this year’s holiday season.
