'Ready, Set, Go!': Katy Cares Brings Back Free Parenting Program for Single Parents
Katy Cares, a local nonprofit organization, is gearing up to host another Ready, Set, Go! series, a community-based parenting program aimed at supporting single parents. The free, nine-module program will provide group sessions focused on parenting strategies, relationship building, and child development.
The program will consist of weekly group sessions, available both in-person and online, covering topics such as self-care for parents, emotional regulation, strengthening parent-child connections, the long-term impact of bonding, childhood development milestones, leading by example in family values, and implementing positive, value-based discipline strategies. Each session will be led by a facilitator and therapist, offering structured discussions and opportunities for participants to share experiences.

The Need: Supporting Single-Parent Families in Katy
Katy Cares was founded in 2016 in response to challenges faced by single-parent families, particularly those experiencing financial hardship or homelessness. According to local and national reports, 27% of children live in single-parent households, and single-parent families face a higher risk of economic instability and stress-related challenges.
In Katy ISD, an estimated 500+ students are classified as homeless, with more than 16,000 students identified as economically disadvantaged. Studies indicate that single-parent households in Harris and Fort Bend counties report high levels of financial strain, stress, and mental health concerns.
Recognizing this growing social crisis and its impacts on local families, Katy Cares set out to bridge the gap in support for single-parent families across the Katy community through a variety of targeted programs that aim to help single parents from the inside out.
